Supportive Housing Worker – Housing Services (Full-Time, Permanent)

The Role and Opportunity

The Supportive Housing Worker provides direct, client-centered support to individuals living with mental illness who may also be experiencing homelessness or involved with the justice system. Working within a supportive housing environment, this role focuses on promoting recovery, independence, and stability by assisting clients with daily living skills, health and wellness activities, and community integration. The Supportive Housing Worker plays a key role in helping clients maintain safe, stable housing and achieve their personal recovery goals.


Salary: $54,943 – $60,203

Hours: 35 per week

Responsibilities

The Supportive Housing Worker (SHW) provides direct, hands-on support to clients living with mental health challenges who may also be experiencing housing instability or other barriers. The SHW assists clients with a range of daily living activities and tenancy supports, working collaboratively to promote recovery, wellness, and community integration. These activities and supports include:

Conductinghousing and needs assessments todetermineeligibility and readiness.Supportingclients in developing andmaintaininglife skills (e.g., hygiene, budgeting, medication management, cooking, cleaning).Providingcoaching, mentoring, and orientation to residents to promote successful tenancy and daily routines.Supportingclients in understanding their rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies Act.Liaisingwith landlords, housing staff, and property managers to resolve tenancy concerns and ensure positive relationships.Assistingwith move-ins, move-outs, and other housing transitions, acting as an Agent of the Landlord whenrequired.
Beyond direct client support, the SHW plays a key role in ensuring program accountability, safety, and quality service delivery. Maintaining accurate, timely documentation and responding proactively to client needs are essential aspects of this role, such as:

Conducting regularunit inspectionsto ensure health and safety conditions are being keptResponding to crisis callsand urgent issues reported by building or program staff,ensuringappropriate interventionsand follow-ups are provided.Maintaining up-to-date andaccuratecase documentation within the program database, ensuring that client information, progress notes, and service records are consistently recorded.Collaborating with colleagues and community partners to coordinate care, share information appropriately, andidentifyopportunities for service improvement.Skills You Bring

The ideal candidate will have:

Degree/Diploma in SocialWork, SocialServicesorrelated field in human servicesExperience providing community based direct service to adults with mental illnessKnowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act and supportivehousing(including knowledge of theLandlordand Tenant Board)Knowledge of the criminal justice system, concurrent disorders and issues affecting the homelessKnowledge of the Ontario Support Disability Program and Ontario Works Familiarity with homeless outreach initiatives and the shelter systemGood written and verbal communication skillsAbility toworkeffectively in a team as well as independentlyAbility to foster andmaintainrelationships with the corporate sector and community agenciesExcellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skillsExperience working with diverse communities Required to have a valid Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle and insurance coverage.
