The school of nursing BScN program requires a sessional faculty member to teach the course HEAL 3350. This course presents concepts in mental health care to senior-level (3rd- and 4th-year) students in health-related fields. Students explore the evolution of mental health care in Canada and develop awareness of current issues and concerns affecting mental health care in today's healthcare environment. Students engage in experiential and reflexive learning informed by current evidence-based literature and clinical experts in the field. The course embraces a trauma-informed perspective, and students are guided through assessment, communication, teaching, and therapeutic techniques they can apply in their own lives and in their clinical practice. Students are guided through these experiences to build their resilience as healthcare professionals and their confidence in understanding and improving mental health care for their patients/clients, their profession, and their communities.
The successful applicant will have expertise with mental health, trauma-informed practice, the evolution of Canadian Mental Health, and resilient strategies for healthcare
- Master’s Degree required
- Holds a Bachelor’s degree in nursing;
- Experience in nursing education
- Experience using teaching and learning technologies
- Experience using a learning management system
- Experience preparing evaluative tools and grading
- Experience teaching undergraduate students in a theory course (preferred)
- Three (3) years or equivalent hours of clinical practice experience in a relevant field of nursing (Mental Health preferred)
- Exemplary communication skills (written, oral, and electronic)
- An understanding of, and experience in, the Canadian healthcare system
- Practicing RN membership with BCCNM
