Job Description
Serve a dual role in Medical Records and Business Office. Responsible for Medical Records front desk, processing medical records requests, responsible for following up on billed claims, working with patients, third party payers, and other sources to secure adequate information to properly bill claims.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- General office duties in medical records, including but not limited to, answering phones, retrieving voicemails, returning calls to patients, sending faxes.
- Process medical records requests in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
- Track and document release of information requests and maintain appropriate logs.
- Perform pertinent follow up on patient accounts based on calls/inquiries with insurance companies, patients, guarantors, etc. and re-process insurance claims based on such correspondence.
- Adhere to Compliance, Safety, and HIPAA policies.
- Access and manage highly sensitive patient information.
- Register patients through the ER registration department.
- Work patient accounts through billing software and generation of monthly reports through EHR.
- Ability to read and understand Explanation of Benefits statements.

- A high school diploma is required.
- Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology (such as procedure codes, diagnoses, and patient liability) and understanding of hospital billing.
- Previous experience in a hospital and medical office preferred, not required.
- Previous experience with insurance plans preferred, not required.
