Position Summary
The General Merchandise Associate is responsible for supporting the sales, display, inventory management, and customer service of the dealership’s general merchandise department. This role ensures that accessories, branded goods, and other retail items are properly stocked, displayed, and sold in a professional and customer-friendly manner. The ideal candidate is organized, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a retail-style environment within a dealership setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet customers and assist with selection and purchase of dealership merchandise and accessories.
- Maintain attractive, organized, and well-stocked merchandise displays.
- Receive, stock, and price incoming merchandise accurately.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with reordering and inventory control.
- Process sales transactions using dealership point-of-sale systems.
- Assist customers with product information, availability, and recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of sales, inventory, and returns.
- Support promotional displays and seasonal merchandising initiatives.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the merchandise area.
- Assist with online or special order merchandise requests.
- Communicate with vendors regarding product availability and deliveries.
- Follow dealership policies regarding cash handling and customer service standards.
- Report inventory discrepancies or damaged goods to management.
- Perform additional retail or administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a retail sales environment.
- Basic math and cash-handling skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with point-of-sale systems preferred.
- Positive attitude and professional appearance.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior retail, customer service, or merchandising experience preferred.
- Automotive dealership experience is a plus but not required.
- On-the-job training provided.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stock shelves and move merchandise as needed.
- Ability to operate point-of-sale and computer systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and with customers.
Work Environment
Retail-based environment within an automotive dealership setting with frequent customer interaction and moderate noise levels. Work includes indoor showroom and merchandise area responsibilities, with occasional extended hours during promotions or sales events.
