JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Lead plays a crucial role assisting the Clinic Leader with overseeing the day to day activities within the clinic, ensuring the delivery of high quality healthcare services. This role involves monitoring patient flow, training and supporting clinical staff, coordinating scheduling, and acting as a liaison for internal and external stakeholders. The Clinical Lead promotes a culture of teamwork, compassion, and patient centered care, all while contributing to clinic improvement projects and performance management. This role involves assisting with the selection of staff, development opportunities, and reporting performance feedback. Incumbent will also coordinate provider scheduling. The Clinical Lead may expect to spend their time as follows: 30% non-clinical and 70% clinical.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Professional Practice
- Medication Safety: Adheres to the ten rights of medication administration to prevent errors.
- Collaboration: Works effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless patient care.
- Communication & Leadership: Demonstrates strong communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
- Patient Safety: Promotes a safe environment by minimizing healthcare errors and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Patient Care: Conducts comprehensive head-to-toe assessments and reassessments per policy and unit-specific guidelines. Accurately assesses and manages pain using pharmacological and non-pharmacological techniques.
- Positive Environment: Creates a welcoming, calm, and supportive atmosphere for patients in the clinic.
- Scheduling & Coordination: Assists with scheduling appointments, admissions, and medical procedures.
- Phone Triage: Efficiently manages patient and stakeholder communications.
- Data Collection: Utilizes tools to support clinic operations and maintain accurate records.
- Assisting Providers: Supports providers during procedures and physical exams, including minor tasks such as wound care and dressing applications.
- Patient Education: Provides patients with care instructions as directed by healthcare providers.
- Sterile Processing: Ensures proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment in compliance with established guidelines.
Quality & Compliance
- Liaison Role: Acts as a bridge between patients, families, healthcare providers, and administration, ensuring clear communication and coordination.
- Patient & Family Involvement: Engages patients and families in their care plans to enhance participation and outcomes.
- Documentation: Maintains accurate and compliant documentation per current standards and policies.
- Scope of Practice: Provides treatments and services within the defined scope of practice, demonstrating competency and adherence to professional standards.
- Effective Communication: Facilitates clear and professional communication among all healthcare team members to enhance patient care.
- Clinical Support: Assists clinical staff with procedures and provides technical and manual support as per training and scope of practice.
- Reporting & Safety: Promptly reports incidents, near misses, adverse events, and any issues impacting patient safety and care quality.

Knowledge & Technical Expertise

- Clinical Knowledge: Possesses a deep understanding of patient care, treatment planning, and evaluation.
- Complex Care Proficiency: Provides advanced patient care, performing complex treatments and procedures with precision and minimal supervision.
- Infection Control: Adheres to infection control protocols, including those for tuberculosis (TB), blood borne pathogens, and hazardous waste.
- Pharmaceutical Handling: Ensures safe handling, storage, and documentation of pharmaceuticals and samples.
- Resource Management: Manages clinical and office supplies, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
Technical Skills & Cross-Training
- Laboratory Specimen Handling: Processes and labels lab specimens per SMH policy, including urinalysis and blood sugar tests.
- Procedure Assistance: Provides cross-trained support to providers during medical procedures.
- Schedule Management: Manages provider schedules, ensuring appointments and workflows are well-organized.
- Semi-Complex Medical Treatments: Performs specialized treatments, such as phototherapy, EKGs, and Uniboot applications.
- Injection Administration: Administers approved medication injections following departmental training and certification
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience & License
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required for MAs, Associates degree of nursing required for RNs and LPN certificate required for LPNs.
- RNs - Current Wyoming license as a Registered Nurse without restrictions.
- LPNs - Current Wyoming licensure as Liicensed Practical Nurse without restrictions.
- MAs - Graduate of a formal medical assistant program accredited by the CAAHEP or ABHES and Certified, or a Registered Medical Assistant, preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years nursing/clinical experience, preferred
- Medical terminology course, preferred.
- BLS, required.
- Behavior de-escalation, preferred.

- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Additional languages desirable
- Basic computer knowledge
- Demonstrated effective organizational skills
