Senior QA Automation Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior QA Automation Specialist based in Canada.

We are seeking an experienced QA Automation Specialist to strengthen a remote R&D team focused on building reliable, high-quality web applications and services.
This role offers the opportunity to design and enhance automated testing strategies across complex software solutions.
You will contribute to improving product quality by creating robust test frameworks, identifying issues early, and supporting continuous delivery practices.
Working closely with developers and product teams, you will help ensure software reliability, performance, and scalability.
The position provides a collaborative environment where technical expertise, problem-solving, and innovation are highly valued.

Accountabilities:

As a Senior QA Automation Specialist, you will play a key role in defining and executing quality assurance strategies, improving automation practices, and ensuring software excellence across the product lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development, maintenance, and review of automated testing scripts while promoting best practices within the QA team.
  • Mentoring automation engineers and supporting the adoption of effective testing methodologies.
  • Designing, writing, maintaining, and executing comprehensive test plans, test cases, and automated test suites.
  • Performing functional, integration, security, system, performance, load, stress, and robustness testing.
  • Developing automation solutions using open-source tools and analyzing test results to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Managing defect identification, documentation, tracking, validation, and resolution processes.
  • Collaborating with developers, product managers, and internal teams to understand requirements and improve product quality.
  • Investigating software issues, monitoring debugging activities, and supporting the implementation of effective fixes.
  • Tracking quality metrics, including defect trends and test coverage, to continuously improve QA processes.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines strong technical QA expertise with automation experience, analytical thinking, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment. Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in Quality Assurance and Test Automation.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java, SQL, REST Assured, JMeter, and Selenium.
  • Solid understanding of software QA methodologies, testing processes, and quality frameworks.
  • Practical knowledge of TDD, BDD, and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience creating detailed test plans, test cases, and automation strategies.
  • Experience with both white-box and black-box testing approaches.
  • Strong database knowledge, including SQL and technologies such as MongoDB or Elasticsearch.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools such as Jira.
  • Experience with Java, Groovy, REST APIs, SOAP Web Services, or GraphQL is a plus.
  • Knowledge of performance testing, security testing, load testing, or system testing tools is an advantage.
  • Ability to work autonomously, learn quickly, solve complex problems, and collaborate effectively with distributed teams.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset.
