Description:

The Pharmacy Technician, Clinical Intervention Center supports pharmacist-led clinical and medication-related workflows by coordinating follow-up, gathering and documenting information, communicating with healthcare providers and facility staff, and helping resolve routine medication and prescription issues within technician scope. This role works closely with pharmacists, prescribers, nursing facility staff, and internal pharmacy teams to support accurate, timely, and compliant medication services for residents in long-term care and other post-acute care settings.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned clinical intervention queues, worklists, communications, and follow-up activities in accordance with established priorities and service expectations.
  • Gather information and documentation needed to support pharmacist review and medication-related interventions.
  • Communicate professionally with prescribers, nursing staff, facility personnel, and other healthcare partners regarding prescription clarification, documentation, follow-up, and other medication-related needs within technician scope.
  • Coordinate follow-up on incomplete, missing, changed, or otherwise unresolved prescription and medication requests.
  • Review and assist with resolving routine prescription, adjudication, insurance, or processing issues and escalate matters requiring additional review.
  • Accurately document communications, actions taken, outstanding items, and outcomes in applicable pharmacy systems.
  • Coordinate prescription and medication information with pharmacists and internal departments to support accurate and timely processing and dispensing.
  • Work collaboratively with Data Entry, Billing, Customer Service, Pharmacy Operations, Logistics, and other teams to resolve medication-related workflow issues.
  • Identify issues that require pharmacist judgment, clinical review, or escalation and route them appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable pharmacy regulations, HIPAA requirements, company policies, and established procedures.
  • Support quality, service, and workflow improvement by identifying recurring issues and communicating opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain professional and responsive relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Perform other related responsibilities and projects as assigned.
Requirements:

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent demonstrated capability.
  • At least 1 year of pharmacy technician, healthcare, medication-related, or comparable regulated-work experience.
  • Active pharmacy technician registration, license, or authorization as required by the work location.
  • Ability to work independently within established procedures and appropriately escalate issues outside technician scope.
  • Working proficiency with pharmacy systems, technology, and medication-related documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, prioritization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and appropriate turnaround times.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with pharmacists, healthcare providers, facility staff, and internal team members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle protected health information.
  • Ability to work the schedule associated with the position, including weekend or other coverage as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PTCB or other nationally recognized pharmacy technician certification.
  • Long-term care, institutional, closed-door, or other pharmacy experience.
  • Experience supporting clinical, prescription clarification, adjudication, prior authorization, or medication-related workflows.
  • Experience using pharmacy management, eMAR, EHR, or related healthcare technology.
  • Experience communicating with prescribers, nursing facilities, or other healthcare partners.
