POSITION SUMMARY

The Benefits Specialist II is a subject matter expert on McCarthys health, welfare, wellbeing, and recognition programs. This role provides Tier 2 support for complex employee and HR inquiries in partnership with the HR Service Center, supports wellbeing programs and engagement activities, and helps ensure accurate, compliant benefits administration, including open enrollment and life event support. The position contributes to a high-quality employee experience through strong benefits knowledge and responsive, employee-focused service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee and HR Support
  • Serve as a Tier 2 resource for complex employee and HR questions related to health, welfare, and wellbeing programs.
  • Provide clear guidance on plan options, eligibility, coverage, claims, life events, and recognition program questions.
Wellbeing and Engagement
  • Support and execute wellbeing programs and campaigns, including events, participation tracking, and feedback collection.
  • Lead wellness and mental health champion activities, including meetings, toolkits, and communications.
  • Partner with Benefits leadership to support campaigns, roadshows, and webinars.
Benefits Administration
  • Assist with open enrollment and ongoing benefits administration, including system testing, life event support, and audits.
  • Reconcile benefit invoice payments and partner with internal stakeholders to support resolution.
  • Coordinate with Payroll, carriers, and internal partners to ensure accurate deductions, eligibility, and data integrity.
  • Support benefits data management and system issue resolution with the Benefits Technology and Compliance team.
Reporting and Improvement
  • Track participation and engagement data to identify opportunities for program and communication improvements.
  • Document recurring issues and feedback to improve processes and clarify benefits communications.
Collaboration
  • Partner with HR, HR Service Center, Payroll, Safety, and vendors to deliver a coordinated benefits experience.
  • Support cross-functional benefits, wellbeing, and Total Rewards initiatives.
  • Represent Total Rewards in meetings and projects as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects in support of Total Rewards and Health and Wellbeing strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, Health Promotion, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 24 years of experience in benefits, wellbeing, HR, or related HR operations, preferably with exposure to health and welfare plans.
  • Experience supporting employee and HR benefits inquiries, issue resolution, or case management strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of health, welfare, and wellbeing benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, EAP, mental health, and wellness programs.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive matters with empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with HRIS or benefits systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with employees, leaders, vendors, and HR partners.
  • Alignment with McCarthys values and commitment to employee health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Periodic travel to offices or jobsites for events, roadshows, or training.
  • Standard business hours with occasional extended hours during peak periods such as open enrollment or major program launches.
