Director - Business Development, Commercialization

This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of pharmaceutical innovation and market access, focused on bringing new therapies to the Canadian healthcare landscape. The position plays a critical part in identifying, structuring, and securing in-licensing and commercialization partnerships that expand access to innovative treatments. It involves high-level deal execution, strategic negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration across regulatory, legal, financial, and operational teams. The role also contributes to shaping go-to-market strategies for new products entering Canada. Operating in a fast-paced, relationship-driven environment, it requires strong market insight and commercial judgment. The impact of this role directly supports the successful introduction and lifecycle management of therapies that improve patient outcomes.

Accountabilities

This role is responsible for driving end-to-end business development activities focused on in-licensing and commercialization of pharmaceutical products in the Canadian market. It requires identifying high-value partnership opportunities, leading complex negotiations, and ensuring successful execution of strategic deals.

  • Lead identification, evaluation, and execution of in-licensing and distributorship opportunities for pharmaceutical products
  • Conduct comprehensive due diligence across scientific, clinical, regulatory, and commercial dimensions
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with global pharmaceutical partners, biotech firms, and manufacturers
  • Negotiate and finalize complex agreements in collaboration with legal, financial, and operational stakeholders
  • Design and deliver commercialization strategies for new-to-Canada products and clients
  • Oversee RFP responses, pricing models, and contract development aligned with business objectives
  • Partner with regulatory teams to assess feasibility and support market entry strategies
  • Represent the organization at industry events and strengthen market presence through strategic networking
  • Ensure seamless transition of client requirements to internal operational teams
Requirements

This role requires extensive experience in pharmaceutical business development, with a strong track record in deal-making, commercialization strategy, and cross-functional leadership. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with deep industry expertise and strong interpersonal influence.

  • 15+ years of experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or healthcare industries
  • Proven success in in-licensing, deal execution, and lifecycle management of pharmaceutical products
  • 10+ years in client-facing roles such as sales, marketing, or business development
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian pharmaceutical regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build and convert business pipelines from prospecting to signed agreements
  • Experience in commercialization strategy and regulatory-focused business development
  • Strong negotiation, relationship management, and consultative selling skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Strong project management and organizational capabilities
  • University degree in Science, Business, Management, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools; bilingualism considered an asset
