Join Our Dynamic Team at Dallas Detox Center! Dallas Detox Center, is a proud member of the Quadrant Health Group, is seeking a skilled, dependable, and compassionate Lead Chef.

The Lead Chef is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations within a 52-bed residential Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health treatment facility. This position ensures the preparation of nutritious, high-quality meals while maintaining compliance with all applicable health department regulations, Joint Commission standards, food safety requirements, and company policies. The Lead Chef supervises kitchen staff, manages food ordering and inventory, maintains kitchen cleanliness, and leads daily kitchen operations to provide a safe and efficient dining experience for clients and staff.

This is an on-site, hands-on role based in Weatherford, TX.

What You’ll Do

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

Food Service & Meal Preparation
  • Prepare and cook meals according to the facility's approved four-week rotating menu.
  • Ensure meals are served on schedule and meet nutritional and portion requirements.
  • Accommodate physician-ordered, allergy-related, and special dietary restrictions.
  • Monitor food quality, taste, presentation, and temperature throughout meal service.
  • Assist with all routine kitchen duties including food preparation, cooking, cleaning, dishwashing, and closing procedures.
Ordering & Inventory Management
  • Order food and kitchen supplies through the company's Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) based on the approved four-week menu.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing waste and controlling food costs.
  • Receive and inspect weekly GPO deliveries every Monday.
  • Unload delivery trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Label and date all food items immediately upon receipt.
  • Ensure all food storage follows FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory practices.
  • Monitor expiration dates and remove outdated products promptly.
Kitchen Leadership
  • Supervise, train, and schedule kitchen staff.
  • Delegate daily responsibilities to kitchen employees.
  • Ensure staff follow food safety procedures and sanitation standards.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Foster teamwork, professionalism, and accountability within the kitchen department.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new kitchen employees.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with:
    • State Health Department regulations
    • Joint Commission standards
    • Food safety and sanitation requirements
    • Company policies and procedures
  • Ensure kitchen documentation is completed accurately and timely.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures, storage logs, cleaning schedules, and sanitation records.
  • Prepare the kitchen for inspections and regulatory surveys.
Kitchen Cleanliness & Safety
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Monitor proper use of chemicals and cleaning supplies.
  • Ensure safe food handling practices are followed by all kitchen staff.
  • Report equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following OSHA and facility safety guidelines.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Culinary training or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in food service preferred.
  • Experience working in healthcare, behavioral health, residential treatment, long-term care, or institutional food service preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation standards.
  • Food Handler Certification (required or obtained within required timeframe).
  • ServSafe Manager Certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate staff.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and food ordering systems.
  • Understanding of FIFO inventory procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Bend, stoop, reach, and climb as necessary.
  • Work in hot and cold kitchen environments.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely.
Work Schedule
  • Full-time position.
  • Weekend and holiday availability as needed.
  • Monday GPO deliveries require availability for receiving and stocking inventory.
Performance Expectations

The Lead Chef is expected to:

  • Maintain full compliance with all state regulations and Joint Commission standards.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared accurately and served on time.
  • Keep the kitchen inspection-ready at all times.
  • Successfully manage food ordering and inventory with minimal waste.
  • Ensure all food is properly labeled, dated, and rotated using FIFO principles.
  • Provide effective supervision and leadership to kitchen staff.
  • Promote a clean, safe, and therapeutic dining environment for clients and staff.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and teamwork while supporting the facility's mission of providing high-quality care to individuals recovering from substance use and mental health disorders.
