Description:

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Receptionist/LNA/MA is responsible for the courteous and prompt processing of patients at the waiting area and verifying patient demographic data. They are also responsible for specific aspects of direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Receptionist Roles/Responsibilities:

· Admission of patients.

· Verifies the accuracy and completeness of patient clinical, demographic and insurance

information upon admission of the patient. Enters corrected patient information into

the medical software system at the time of admission.

· Communicates patient and/or proceduralist delays to the Admit Area Team Leader.

· Updates the Schedule for cancellations and/or add on cases.

· Informs the Nursing Leadership Team of any cancelled and/or

altered procedures.

· Requests the patient or legal guardian read the Patient’s Bill of Rights and

Responsibilities.

· Protects patient confidentiality and dignity by keeping patient information in an

inconspicuous location at the front desk; and keeps discussion of a patient’s

procedure(s) to a tone discernable only to the patient/legal guardian.

· Assembles patient care charts for upcoming surgeries.

· Maintains an orderly and secure system for storing patient charts at the front desk.

· Records and reconciles daily all monies collected at the front desk.

· Secures and reconciles the change drawer.

· Assists in maintaining a presence at the front desk at all times, with the exception of

lunches and breaks.

· Retrieves and forwards general mailbox messages to the appropriate personnel.

· General management of the telephone system. Deactivating after hours answering

service/night ring; activating after hours answering service/night ring; and, ensuring the

after-hours/emergency message is correct and activated.

· Properly disposes of any patient information for cancelled or no-show patients.

Clinical Roles/Responsibilities - Working within the scope of practice defined by the Vermont State Board of Nursing, duties may include but are not limited to the following:

· Assist nurses in making sure that each bay is set up for patients

· Assist with getting patients from the reception area and get settled in the bay.

· Obtain vital signs

· Assist patients with transferring and other ADLs as necessary

· Answer patient call lights

· Obtain Blood Glucose/pregnancy test when required

· Assist with transport of patient at discharge

· Assist with the turnover of the bay at discharge

Requirements:

Requirements:

1. High school graduate.

Qualifications:

1. Comprehension of medical terminology.

2. Familiar with OSHA and HIPPA requirements.

3. Must have experience using Windows XP.

4. Experience in Excel preferred.

5. Experience in using electronic scheduling software preferred.

6. Excellent communication skills.

7. Competency in oral and written skills.

8. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.

9. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

10. Must be able to work under pressure.
