Summary:
The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a ‘Service Delivery Area’ comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services.
Under the direction of the maintenance coordinator, incumbent will perform cleaning of all assigned areas. Employee will use a variety of equipment and supplies to maintain a clean and safe environment. Assist maintenance staff when requested.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Keeps buildings with prioritization of clinical spaces/patient care areas in clean, presentable and orderly condition by performing a combination of activities including cleaning/disinfecting assigned areas.
- Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of floors by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning carpet per schedule and as needed. Strips, waxes, and buffs/polishes hard floor surfaces.
- Wash interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, glass partitions, doors etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment.
- Clean all bathrooms, kitchen, lobby, conference rooms/workspaces and individual office areas.
- Empty waste receptacles and dispose of refuse.
- Dust and polish furniture.
- Maintains an organized/ clean storage space for cleaning supplies and equipment
- Perform outside duties including washing windows/doors, glass partitions, cleaning of building exterior, sweeping walkways, cleaning handrails, door handles, and picking up trash.
- Remove spots from carpets and furniture.
- Clean all spills including bodily fluids in compliance with OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogen protocols. Proper handling and disposal of waste in compliance with safety standards
- Clean and disinfect all fixtures and surfaces in restrooms, full kitchen (including microwave and refrigerator, sinks) and shower facilities, as well as all drinking fountains per cleaning schedule/checklist.
- Fill paper/soap/toiletries product dispensers in restrooms and other designated areas.
- Maintains cleaning logs/check lists for patient care and high traffic areas.
- Ensure all windows and exterior doors are locked in the evenings.
- Assist with moving furniture and unloading and storing supplies.
- Report maintenance issues (plumbing leaks, damaged flooring, lighting failures, etc.) promptly with communication to supervisor
- Assist with emergency preparedness activities, including weather related events and infectious disease response.
- Maintains a professional appearance and provide courteous interactions with patients, visitors and staff
- Participates in annual infection control, safety and HIPAA training
- Opens and closes buildings as requested and may provide onsite monitoring when activities are taking place outside of normal office hours.
- Set up chairs, tables and equipment for meetings, activities, and events
- Clean up after special events or activities held on-site, returning workspaces to proper layout.
- Must be flexible in work scheduling to meet time demands of the position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Relationships and Authority:
Responds to requests of other employees as it relates to this position’s duties. This position has no supervisory authority.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Physical requirements include carrying/lifting up to 10 pounds, frequently; up to 20 pounds, regularly; and up to 50 pounds, occasionally. Visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to drive an automobile and operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment; subject to carrying, lifting, twisting and reaching to perform essential job functions. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment with occasional travel to other locations. While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, dirt, dust, bloodborne pathogens or other medical waste and cleaning materials. Complies with safety standard protocols, maintains confidentiality in health bloodborne. Maintains patient privacy by adhering to HIPAA requirements when working in medical areas.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of related experience.
- Ability to perform physical labor and follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of the use of commercial cleaning agents which includes solvents, disinfectants, detergents, and polishing agents required.
- Knowledge of standard custodial practices, procedures, and techniques.
- Knowledge of types and uses of materials, tools and equipment used in building custodial work.
- HIPAA training or ability to complete training within 90 days of date of hire.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and be insurable.
- Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
- Able and willing to travel.
Preferred:
- Ability to operate carpet extractor, floor buffers and various cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of healthcare/medical grade disinfectants and cleaning products.
- Strong attention to detail
- Healthcare cleaning experience preferred but not required
- Computer proficiency with email, Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
- One or more years’ experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, vacuums, and pressure washers if applicable
Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
