Job Description

Groundskeeper

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under occasional supervision, performs skilled and unskilled grounds activities in accordance with Medical Center policies and procedures. Ensures daily workload is carried out through individual or cooperative efforts. Performs lawn and grounds maintenance of hospital/campus/properties owned by the Medical Center. May be assigned to maintenance/snow removal during inclement weather.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Records work tasks and time to complete tasks daily; returns logs to manager weekly.

*Performs general grounds work on hospital campus and properties that include seeding, mowing, trimming, raking, and planting flowers, trees and shrubs.

May be assigned to perform duties outside of trade, particularly during inclement weather.

Performs preventative maintenance and minor maintenance on equipment; operates applicable facility maintenance equipment.

Recommends needed materials for assigned work activity.

Assists with new employee orientation and training.

Mows grounds and rental properties as appropriate/or assigned.

*Maintains grounds sprinkler system.

*Polices and maintains grounds, parking lots, parking garages and rental properties to maintain professional appearance and user safety.

Controls weeds in flowerbeds, lawn, park areas and parking lots.

*Checks and reports equipment with safety defects or needed repairs; cleans, services, and calibrates equipment daily.

Administers chemicals according to manufacturer's label instructions; wears appropriate equipment when applying chemicals.

Maintains and updates Material Safety Data manual.

Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of grounds maintenance operations, practices and equipment.

Knowledge of the proper use of lawn care chemicals.

Knowledge of ground sprinkler systems, maintenance and operation.

Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

Skill in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment and related equipment maintenance.

Ability to follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain a safe work environment.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be 16 years of age or older. Prior grounds maintenance experience desired. Must obtain EPA Chemical Applicator's License required within one (1) year of date of hire.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid State of Nebraska driver’s license required. Verification and maintenance of responsible driving record per facility standards required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) – Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working environment may involve exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures; exposure to heights up to 120 feet; exposure to dusty, wet, and damp places and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

May work in an on-call capacity and be required to work holidays, weekends, evening and nights, overtime as needed including seasonal work, i.e. snow removal.
