Job Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician assists in all aspects of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist to ensure safe and efficient patient care. This role involves performing technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks required to accurately dispense, compound, and distribute medications throughout the facility. Working within a fast-paced environment, the technician coordinates closely with healthcare teams to maintain strict safety standards and a reliable drug distribution system.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Registered with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
  • PTCB certified or must receive certification within 12 months of hire, with a requirement to maintain active certification.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Manual and finger dexterity for using automated technology and computers for up to 90% of working time.
  • Visual acuity and depth perception to operate computer systems; strong speaking and hearing skills.
  • Physical stamina to sit, walk, stand, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, balance, twist, and turn.
  • Ability to manage workplace stress and maintain accuracy under tight workload demands.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience as a Pharmacy Technician

Scheduling Requirements

  • Per Diem (Day)

Essential Functions:

  • Assists pharmacists in all aspects of practice to provide and ensure patient care and safety.
  • Refills unit-dose medication bins and delivers prepared medications and controlled substances to nursing units and hospital areas.
  • Collects and processes medication orders prior to distribution and handles tasks for patient transfers and discharges.
  • Maintains automatic dispensing machines and orders/replaces stock in the pharmacy satellite.
  • Checks for and removes expired medications from stock and restocks code carts.
  • Prepares and labels outpatient prescriptions and extemporaneously compounded non-sterile pharmaceuticals.
  • Performs required calculations for all aspects of medication dispensing and compounding.
  • Prepares and labels sterile products using proper aseptic technique, and maintains laminar air flow hoods according to procedure.
  • Prepares and labels chemotherapy medications using aseptic technique and appropriate safety systems (requires appropriate certification of a formal program).
  • Monitors IV schedules and unused IV solutions on select nursing units to increase efficiency and avoid waste.
  • Handles departmental record keeping, billing, and controlled substance processing.
  • Adheres to universal precautions and safety protocols when working with hazardous chemicals, needles, and anesthesia kits; utilizes personal protective equipment as trained.
  • Adapts to changes in workload and assists with the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and dress code at all times.
  • Demonstrates respect and appreciation for all individuals regardless of background, race, gender, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
  • Follows universal safety standards, including speaking up for safety and communicating in a clear and timely manner
