Job Description

  • Job Summary
    • Greet and direct customers, perform general office functions and secretarial duties, provide clerical support for Rehabilitation personnel, and perform physical therapy aide duties as required.
  • Job Specifications
    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Should have secretarial background and experience with office equipment and personal computers. Must have typing speed of at least 30 wpm and transcription capabilities. Current CPR certification is not required, but is preferred.
      JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Proficiency in office procedures such as work processing, Excel, Outlook, filing, writing, answering phones and conveying information. Must possess good organizational and communication skills. The patient population must be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee.

      • Ability to deal effectively, tactfully, patiently and pleasantly with patients, family members, physicians and staff members.
      • Absolute integrity and emotional stability, with sufficient maturity to handle and maintain confidentiality.
      • Ability to exercise tact, initiative and good judgement.
      • Ability to work with a variety of patients ranging in age. This includes mentally and physically challenged.
      • Capable of developing and maintaining positive working relations with supervisors, co-workers and other enlisting their support and cooperation. Demonstrates commitment and loyalty to the hospital.
      • A preference for routine, concrete and organized activities, but also must possess the ability to adapt to changes resulting from emergencies and schedule, staff or procedural changes.
      • A commitment to strive for optimal skills and greater competencies in the area of office management and interpersonal relationships.
      • Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
      • Ability to maintain necessary records.
      • Ability to perform tasks requiring independent knowledge in addition to instructions provided.
      • Follow departmental and MDH policies, safety regulations and accrediting standards.
      • Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
