General Machinist Position Summary

The General Machinist consistently produces excellent quality parts using correct processes while meeting time standards and minimizing scrap. They assist in initiating cost reductions by exploring different means of material removal whether through tooling or programming techniques.

What You'll Be Doing as General Machinist:

  • Receive drawings and material from storage area
  • Read blueprints to determine optimal method of production
  • Obtain correct tooling and set-up machine for production
  • Machine parts according to drawings, maintaining quality and quantity of parts
  • Maintain machinery, tooling, etc. and inform plant manager of required repairs
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Maintain close attention to detail while prioritizing workload to meet production demands
  • Performs additional duties and tasks as assigned by Supervisors and/or Managers.

Required

  • HS Diploma
  • 3+ years of experience as a General Machinist
  • Ability to use measuring instruments
  • Ability to safely operate forklift
  • Ability to read drawings and communicate problems to management or design team.

Preferred

  • Technical degree in Machining
  • Ability to work independently or under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to stand for extended lengths of time; bend; reach; stoop; and twist
  • Simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation of the hands to operate tooling and test equipment
  • Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machine is working properly
  • Use of either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes
  • Ability to listen to and read electronic equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Working Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those you may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Indoor and climate-controlled manufacturing environment with regular exposure to dirt, dust, noise, machine chemicals, and fumes
  • Works around equipment with audio and visual indicators.

Compensation includes hourly base rate and performance-based quarterly profit sharing. Benefit offerings include private group health, term life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, and retirement programs. Paid leave includes paid time off and holiday pay. Individual base pay is based on various factors, including work location, relevant experience and skills, the responsibility of the role, and job duties/requirements. For this role, our current base pay range for new hires is $20 - $32.
