Summary:
The CNC Machinist I is responsible for operating CNC and precision machining equipment to produce components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. The role will primarily support Wire EDM operations and coupon machining, including machine setup, operation, in-process inspection, and production documentation.
Working closely with CNC Machining, Programming, Engineering, and Quality, this role follows established machining processes, supports safe and efficient shop operations, and develops broader machining, setup, and troubleshooting capabilities through hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Machining & Technical Operations
- Operate CNC and precision machining equipment in accordance with established programs, setup instructions, engineering requirements, and safe work practices.
- Perform routine machine setups and adjustments within demonstrated capability, with support available for more complex setups or machining issues.
- Primarily support Wire EDM operations, coupon machining, and basic 3-Axis work while developing experience across other machining equipment and processes as required.
- Review engineering drawings and setup documentation to understand machining and dimensional requirements.
- Perform in-process inspections using appropriate precision measuring equipment to verify components meet specified requirements.
- Identify and communicate machining, tooling, equipment, or quality concerns and seek support when issues fall outside established processes or experience.
Equipment, Quality & Documentation
- Perform routine equipment care and maintain tooling, fixtures, equipment, and work areas in an organized condition to support safe and reliable operations.
- Complete required production, inspection, and traceability documentation in accordance with AS9100 requirements and company procedures.
Collaboration & Development
- Collaborate with CNC Machinists, CNC Programming, Engineering, and Quality to support production requirements and resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Develop technical capability in machining, setup, inspection, and troubleshooting through hands-on experience and guidance.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, productivity, and machining processes.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Requirements:Technical Skills & Experience
- Previous hands-on experience operating CNC or other precision machining equipment is required; 2+ years of related machining experience is preferred.
- Foundational knowledge of machining principles, tooling, workholding, machine setup, and safe equipment operation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and basic GD&T requirements.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other common inspection tools.
- Wire EDM experience is considered an asset.
- Experience running production parts is considered an asset.
- Ability to follow established programs, setup documentation, work instructions, and quality requirements while maintaining attention to detail.
Industry & Material Knowledge
- Experience in aerospace or another high-precision manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with AS9100 or similar quality management systems and manufacturing documentation is considered an asset.
- Experience working with a variety of metals and precision-machined components is considered an asset.
Education & Professional Attributes
- College diploma, certificate, apprenticeship training, or other education in Machining, Precision Manufacturing, or a related skilled trade is preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills with a willingness to develop broader machining capabilities.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively with Machining, Programming, Engineering, and Quality teams.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with a commitment to producing quality work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates reliability, accountability, a commitment to safe work practices, and a willingness to learn and continuously improve.

Pay Range:
The expected hourly wage range for this position is $25 - $32 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, education and qualifications.
