Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The head coach will direct all aspects of the cheer program including, but not limited to, recruiting, scheduling, practice and game management, budget management, fundraising, compliance with NAIA, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and University rules, and promoting the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement comprehensive training programs focused on skill development, technique, and performance enhancement.
• Provide individualized coaching and feedback to cheerleaders to improve their stunting, tumbling, jumps, and dance routines.
• Establish clear expectations and standards for performance, behavior, and academic success.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes personal growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
• Plan and coordinate training sessions, rehearsals, and conditioning programs to prepare for competitions and performances.
• Develop creative and dynamic routines that showcase the skills and talents of the cheerleading team.
• Coordinate choreography, music selection, and costume design for competition routines.
• Provide guidance and direction during rehearsals to ensure precision, synchronization, and execution of routines.
• Lead the recruitment efforts to attract talented cheerleaders to the university's cheerleading program.
• Coordinate tryouts, auditions, and information sessions to select new team members.
• Build relationships with high school coaches, cheerleading programs, and community organizations to identify potential recruits.
• Provide support and mentorship to current cheerleaders to enhance retention and academic success.
• Plan and coordinate logistics for cheerleading events, including practices, games, competitions, and community appearances.
• Coordinate travel arrangements, lodging, and transportation for away games and competitions.
• Collaborate with athletic department staff and event organizers to ensure smooth and successful event operations.
• Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to provide event details, schedules, and expectations.
• Cultivate a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes camaraderie, respect, and integrity.
• Conduct team meetings, leadership development activities, and team-building exercises.
• Manage administrative tasks related to team management, budgeting, equipment inventory, and uniform distribution.
• Collaborate with athletic department staff on fundraising, community outreach, and promotional activities.
Qualifications:
• Collegiate cheerleading and/or coaching experience.
• Bachelor’s degree, required. Master degree, preferred. NAIA and/or private, value-based University experience preferred.
• Irregular work hours such as weekends, holidays, and evenings are to be expected.
• Multilingual skills highly preferred.
