Senior Events & Outreach Coordinator (Part-Time)

The Hoosier Environmental Council (HEC) is seeking a part-time Senior Events & Outreach Coordinator to help grow and energize our community engagement efforts in support of a more sustainable future for Indiana. The role focuses on tabling and representing HEC at community events, planning HEC events, promoting HEC events through social media and targeted emails, and volunteer management with opportunities to grow HEC’s volunteer program in the future.
This position is perfect for someone who enjoys a flexible schedule and work that evolves day to day. The ideal candidate is someone with excellent writing, verbal communication, planning, and time management skills. Volunteer or professional experience in community engagement and event planning is preferred.
About the Role
Location: Hybrid – Can work remotely, though in-person tasks in person and event attendance will be frequent. Most events occur in central Indiana, but occasional travel statewide is required
Hours:100 hours per month on average, flexed according to event dates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
You’ll play an important role connecting people to HEC’s environmental mission by supporting outreach, program, and policy events, as well as volunteer engagement. Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting and advancing HEC’s outreach strategy, helping bring people into our environmental advocacy work. · Coordinating and executing HEC events, especially within our program, policy, and outreach initiatives.
- Helping grow HEC’s presence at community events and public-facing activities, including event tabling.
- Coordinating volunteer inquiries and requests while looking for opportunities to expand HEC’s volunteer program.
- Collaborating with staff and partners to connect community members, students, and volunteers with meaningful ways to support HEC.
- Providing project coordination to ensure outreach and engagement efforts are well-organized, timely, and effective

- Loves planning, organizing, and keeping multiple projects moving forward.
- Is adaptable, proactive, and comfortable with change.
- Experience event planning, in a professional or volunteer capacity
- Has a flexible schedule, including availability for occasional evenings or weekends,
- Thrives in a role where no two days look the same.
- Is motivated by environmental advocacy and making a difference in Indiana.
- Possesses strong writing and communication skills.
- Can competently navigate Microsoft Office Suite, is comfortable working in CRM databases, and has a working knowledge of Canva and Hootsuite.
Compensation and Benefits
- $25.00/hour, with an average of 100 hours/month.
- Prorated paid holidays
Travel Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation are necessary.
- Ability to attend and participate in events, workshops, and public meetings, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Due to the location of many events and related planning tasks, the ideal candidate will either live in the Indianapolis metropolitan area or be willing to commute to the area very frequently (could be as much as 3 times per week).

2. Continual Growth and Learning - All HEC staff are expected to continually build their knowledge base and share and utilize it strategically to advance program goals. Examples of this include increased utilization of provided tools such as Every Action, GIS mapping, and Canva; building subject matter expertise through reading books, news stories and journals; participation in trainings and discussions with colleagues; and learning through other forms of information such as podcasts and videos. Staff are encouraged to identify and name opportunities for further learning and share related budget needs with their supervisor.
3. Staff Communication and Collaboration – Staff are expected to work collaboratively within the HEC team. This means clear communication and follow-through with team members; providing support and assistance with shared organization goals when called upon by fellow team members when appropriate; and doing your best to understand staff's varied cultural backgrounds, working styles, and communication methods among team members. In addition, staff should work to share their professional preferences for communication, task sharing, and collaboration, and do their best to understand and support the preferences of other team members.
