Job Description
Description:
The Surgical Recovery Technician II recovers human tissue for transplantation as part of a surgical recovery team, serving as a circulator or cutter under the direction of the case coordinator. The role completes recovery documentation and post-recovery work, including shipping tissue and specimens and sterilizing instruments and equipment. It also maintains surgical recovery supply inventory. All work complies with FDA and AATB standards and UTR procedures, and the role works rotating 24-hour on-call shifts.
Core Responsibilities
- Recover human tissue, including bone, connective tissue, skin, heart, and eyes, for transplantation using aseptic techniques.
- Package and label recovered tissue aseptically.
- Reconstruct the donor following tissue recovery.
- Circulate during surgical recoveries, managing sterile supplies, equipment, and recovery process flow.
- Respond to recovery callouts within the required response time during on-call shifts and remain through case completion.
- Complete recovery documentation accurately and in compliance with cGTP and cGMP regulations.
- Adhere to FDA and AATB standards, UTR Standard Operating Procedures, and company policies.
- Pack and ship recovered tissue to contracted tissue processors within required timeframes.
- Pack and ship blood samples and cultures to testing sites.
- Maintain archived blood samples and associated documentation.
- Log the storage and transfer of unprocessed tissue.
- Track culture results and transplanted tissue outcomes for recovered cases.
- Clean and inspect surgical recovery instruments and equipment.
- Sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Track surgical recovery instruments and equipment.
- Manage surgical recovery supply inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating.
- Clean and inspect surgical recovery supply storage areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
- Two years of surgical or critical care experience, or two years of college coursework in a healthcare or science field, required.
- Must be able to work with human cadavers and have a good understanding of human anatomy.
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information.

- Apply a strong understanding of human anatomy to recover tissue accurately.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work rotating 24-hour on-call shifts, including cases that extend beyond the scheduled shift.
- Report to the office within the required response time when called in.
- Travel to recovery locations with little notice.
- Stand for extended periods during surgical recovery cases.
- Perform detailed surgical tasks with a high level of manual dexterity.
- Work safely around biohazardous materials.
- Lift and carry transport containers weighing up to 50 pounds.
