This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior UX and Product Design Consultant based in Canada.
This part-time consulting role offers the opportunity to shape user experience across a diverse portfolio of software products serving nonprofit organizations. You will act as a senior design advisor, influencing product strategy while improving the usability, accessibility and consistency of both modern and established applications. Rather than focusing solely on visual design, you will evaluate workflows, challenge assumptions and advocate for user-centered product decisions. Working closely with Product and Development teams, you will introduce practical UX methodologies and help establish lasting design standards. Your expertise will directly influence product roadmaps, feature development and customer outcomes. Accountabilities:You will serve as a trusted UX and product design partner, helping strengthen the quality of existing products while shaping the experience of new solutions from early development through delivery. Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct comprehensive UX reviews of existing products, workflows and customer experiences to identify usability issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Evaluate new features and product concepts before development to ensure they are intuitive, efficient and user-friendly.
- Apply established UX principles and industry best practices to improve navigation, information architecture, accessibility and overall product consistency.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Developers and stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Create user flows, prototypes and interactive designs when appropriate to communicate and validate design solutions.
- Introduce practical UX methodologies and user-centered design practices into product planning and development processes.
- Establish design standards, interaction patterns and usability guidelines that can be consistently applied across products.
- Partner with Product leadership to bring a UX perspective to roadmap prioritization and strategic product decisions.
- Evaluate product decisions based on customer outcomes, usability, business objectives and market competitiveness.
- Identify opportunities where improved user experiences can create meaningful product differentiation.
- Balance usability improvements with technical constraints, development realities and broader product priorities.
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
- Embed UX thinking into planning, estimation, feature discovery and product review processes.
- Mentor developers and other stakeholders on user-centered design principles to strengthen UX capabilities across the organization.
- Build strong relationships with Product and Development teams and become a trusted advisor on customer experience.
- Identify high-impact improvements across both mature enterprise software and newer cloud-based products.
- Help establish a shared design language and increase organizational confidence in customer-centered product decisions.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an experienced UX and product design professional who can combine hands-on design expertise with strategic influence and strong stakeholder collaboration. You should be comfortable challenging assumptions, advocating for users and balancing customer needs with business and technical considerations.
- 8+ years of professional UI/UX design experience.
- Significant experience designing or improving B2B SaaS products.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with complex software applications rather than primarily marketing websites.
- Expertise in user-centered design methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of interaction design, information architecture and accessibility principles.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to constructively challenge assumptions and advocate for user needs while considering business objectives and technical realities.
- Experience working within Agile product development teams.
- Experience with CRM, ERP, case management, fundraising or other enterprise software is an asset.
- Experience modernizing or evolving established enterprise software products is a plus.
- Experience designing software for nonprofit organizations is beneficial.
- Experience creating and governing design systems is an advantage.
- Experience conducting UX research and usability testing is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG is an asset.
