Supports Dr Arnett practices within North NJ.
General ophthalmology/retina required. We are growing our Retina schedule in Woodland Park and need someone who can establish venous access (venipuncture) and prepare patients for fluorescein dye injection.

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Retina Technician to join our floating ophthalmology team. The Retina Technician will assist ophthalmologists and retinal specialists in diagnosing and treating eye conditions related to the retina, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, and other retinal diseases. This position requires a deep understanding of retinal diagnostic procedures, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to work with advanced retinal imaging technologies. This position will require travel within the northern NJ area and will have a home office of Belleville, NJ.
Current locations include: Belleville, Jersey City, Woodland Park, Ridgewood, Paramus, and Union. Future locations may evolve within NJ. Mileage is reimbursable outside of home office location.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform retinal diagnostic tests and imaging procedures, including OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), fluorescein angiography, and retinal photography.
- Assist in pre-operative and post-operative care for retinal patients.
- Take patient histories and document visual symptoms, medical conditions, and any changes in vision.
- Educate patients on the tests they will undergo, providing clear instructions to ensure the best results.
- Prepare patients for exams, ensuring comfort and proper positioning for various diagnostic procedures.
- Maintain and operate retinal imaging equipment, ensuring all devices are in working order and calibrated correctly.
- Record and organize test results for review by the physician and maintain accurate patient records.
- Support retinal specialists during patient consultations and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining a sterile and organized environment in the clinic and exam rooms.
- Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling patient appointments and following up with patients about results or upcoming treatments.
- Ensure proper patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Initiating and completing prior authorizations.
- Drug ordering and inventory management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COA) or Ophthalmic Medical Technician (OMT) is a plus.
- Previous experience in ophthalmology or retina-focused practices is preferred.
- Proficient with retinal imaging equipment and diagnostic software.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex medical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced medical environment.
- Ability to maintain a calm and caring demeanor when interacting with patients, especially those who may be anxious or experiencing vision-related concerns.
