Position Title: Patient Safety Officer – Nursing Float Pool
Shift: Nights
Status: Full-time
Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00
The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
Position Summary
Responsible for the continuous improvement of total quality care as it relates to providing Patient Observation Companion / Sitter services to patients. Responsible for providing close and/or continuous observation of adult and geriatric patients who may be at risk for adverse events such as falls, self-injury or harm to others. Responsible for providing a safe environment by performing safety rounds on designated unit. Responsible for providing a safe environment by monitoring the cameras located on Psychiatry.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for providing direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under the supervision of the charge nurse and/or nursing manager.
- Responsible for assisting the nursing and security staff to create, maintain and provide a safe environment.
- Responsible for reporting on changes in the condition of patient/client to the appropriate charge nurse and other staff members.
- Responsible for constant monitoring of patient status, anticipating problems, interacting/intervening with patients when necessary, and obtaining immediate assistance as needed to ensure a safe and protective environment.
- Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and as permitted by the policies and procedures of Saint Anthony Hospital, local, state, and federal guidelines; and the policies of the facility requesting services.
- Performs safety rounds on assigned units.
- Assist nursing staff in emergency situations.
- Responsible for monitoring patient activity utilizing the cameras on Psychiatric Unit.
- Maintaining confidentiality consistent with HIPAA and Illinois Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Code.
- Functions as a team member to ensure safe environment for patients and staff.
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent required.
- Ability to achieve Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for HealthCare Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification for HealthCare workers during the orientation period.
- Educated on and compliant with certification requirement for CPI during the orientation period.
- Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for healthcare professionals.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., face mask, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.
- Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members.
- Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
- Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
- Ability to understand medical terminology.
