Full-Time | Non-Exempt | 40 Hours per Week

Alluvion Health is seeking an Apprentice Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at our Alluvion Health Clinic in Choteau, Montana and participate in a structured apprenticeship designed to help qualified Medical Assistants progress toward becoming Licensed Practical Nurses.
This full-time apprenticeship combines hands-on patient care, on-the-job training, clinical experience, and dedicated learning time while you continue working as part of the Alluvion Health care team.
Your typical 40-hour week will include approximately:
- 30 hours of paid, hands-on work and training
- 10 hours of dedicated learning time
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will complete a progressive course of education, clinical learning, and competency development. After successfully completing 2,000 hours of required work and training, you will be qualified to sit for the NCLEX-PN licensing examination.

What You’ll DoYou will begin the apprenticeship working in the role of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) while progressing through the education and competencies required to become an LPN.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide direct patient care and clinical support.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs and clinical information.
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for visits.
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, equipment, and supplies.
- Document information accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Respond to patient calls and messages in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist patients and families with referrals and community resources.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
- Work collaboratively with providers, nurses, Medical Assistants, and other members of the care team.
- Participate in care team huddles, meetings, training, and Quality Improvement activities.
- Support patient engagement, care coordination, and follow-up.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and patient-focused clinical environment.
As you progress through the apprenticeship and your education, your clinical responsibilities will increase based on your demonstrated competencies and permitted scope of practice.
What We’re Looking ForWe are looking for someone who is compassionate, dependable, motivated to learn, and committed to completing the requirements necessary to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous healthcare experience.
- Medical Assistant education and/or experience meeting the requirements for certification.
- A nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification, or the ability to obtain required certification before beginning LPN coursework.
- Excellent customer service and patient care skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organization and time-management skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of an integrated healthcare team.
- A commitment to professionalism, reliability, and punctuality.
- The ability to work respectfully with patients from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Basic computer skills and experience with electronic medical records.
- A desire to learn, grow, and build a career in nursing.
To remain eligible for and successfully complete the apprenticeship, you must:
- Gain acceptance into a Montana State Board of Nursing-recognized Practical Nursing program.
- Maintain the required passing GPA in all nursing coursework.
- Successfully complete required clinical assignments.
- Demonstrate safe and competent nursing care.
- Successfully complete all required apprenticeship competencies and training hours.
- Maintain satisfactory work and academic performance.
- Meet attendance and punctuality expectations throughout the program.

Following graduation from the LPN program, apprentices will have up to six months to prepare for and take the NCLEX-PN.
The apprenticeship program will cover costs associated with up to two NCLEX attempts during that six-month period.
Please note that this position is specifically tied to the duration of the LPN apprenticeship. Upon completion of the apprenticeship and licensing process, employment in the LPN Apprentice position will conclude. Successful apprentices may apply for available nursing positions at Alluvion Health for which they qualify.
