Job Description

Director, Data Strategy

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Data Strategy based in the United States.

The Director, Data Strategy will shape and advance data strategies across two critical functional areas: Customer Engagement and Integrated Marketing.
This role translates business priorities into actionable data roadmaps, capability investments, and measurable outcomes across a complex enterprise environment.
You will identify shared data needs, uncover gaps, and create opportunities to reuse governed data assets across brands, channels, and therapeutic areas.
The position requires close collaboration with business leaders, analytics teams, data governance, technology, vendors, and other data strategy stakeholders.
You will help strengthen customer engagement, omnichannel activation, field execution, marketing effectiveness, segmentation, and integrated customer experiences through better use of data.
Success will depend on your ability to balance strategic priorities, manage a portfolio of data capabilities, and influence senior stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
This is an opportunity to turn enterprise data strategy into scalable capabilities that deliver measurable business value across the U.S. organization.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the functional data strategy for Customer Engagement and Integrated Marketing, defining strategic priorities, roadmaps, capability requirements, and success measures aligned with broader enterprise objectives.
  • Develop data strategies that enable stronger customer engagement, omnichannel activation, field execution, marketing effectiveness, segmentation, and integrated customer experiences across brands and channels.
  • Identify common horizontal data requirements while clearly distinguishing them from therapeutic area, brand, indication, launch, and lifecycle-specific needs.
  • Ensure functional priorities are appropriately represented in enterprise and therapeutic-area roadmaps while avoiding duplication of responsibilities or capabilities.
  • Translate business priorities into clear data requirements, capability priorities, investment recommendations, and measurable outcomes.
  • Partner with Insights & Analytics, Data Partnerships, Data Governance, Data Quality, technology, procurement, vendors, and business stakeholders to align on priorities and execution.
  • Evaluate external data sources, partnerships, platforms, and vendors to identify opportunities to strengthen data capabilities and maximize the value of external data assets.
  • Help manage data-related risks, including privacy, security, quality, compliance, and appropriate use of external data.
  • Drive transparency across the functional data portfolio through roadmap views, KPI summaries, executive updates, investment recommendations, and trade-off assessments.
  • Promote reuse, governance, adoption, and continuous improvement of priority data assets and capabilities.
  • Establish adoption plans and value measures that demonstrate the business impact of strategic data investments.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and facilitate alignment across a complex, cross-functional and matrixed environment.
  • Monitor industry trends, data partnership practices, and evolving capabilities to continuously strengthen the organization’s data strategy.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience developing data, analytics, or data product strategies that connect business priorities with roadmaps, investment decisions, and measurable outcomes, preferably within life sciences.
  • Strong understanding of life sciences data ecosystems and how data sources, governance requirements, business needs, and enterprise capabilities interact across functions.
  • Demonstrated experience developing functional or domain-level data strategies, requirements, capability priorities, and success measures, particularly within customer engagement, marketing, analytics, or related areas.
  • Experience establishing and managing data partnerships, including collaboration with external data providers, platforms, and vendors.
  • Ability to distinguish horizontal functional data requirements from therapeutic-area, brand, indication, launch, and lifecycle-specific priorities.
  • Experience aligning business, Insights & Analytics, Data Partnerships, Data Governance, Data Quality, technology, procurement, and vendor stakeholders around prioritized data capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, privacy, security, compliance, and risk considerations when working with internal and external data assets.
  • Strong strategic thinking and portfolio management skills, with the ability to translate complex data needs into practical priorities and investment recommendations.
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and drive alignment without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, matrixed organization and manage competing priorities while maintaining focus on measurable outcomes.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect data capabilities to customer, marketing, and organizational objectives.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to leverage data insights, market trends, and industry best practices to strengthen data strategy and partnerships.
Benefits
  • Salary range of $185,500–$344,500 per year, with final compensation determined based on relevant skills, experience, and other applicable factors.
  • Performance-based cash incentive opportunity.
  • Potential eligibility for annual equity awards, depending on role level.
  • Remote work opportunity within the United States, subject to applicable location restrictions.
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, life, and disability coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company contribution and match.
  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, personal days, holidays, and other eligible leaves.
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact data strategy initiatives across customer engagement and integrated marketing.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional environment with exposure to senior business, analytics, technology, and data leadership.
  • Opportunity to influence enterprise data capabilities, governance, partnerships, and measurable business outcomes.
