Job Summary
The Homemaker provides essential non-medical support services to elders and individuals with short- or long-term medical disabilities in their homes. This role is vital in helping clients maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment, thereby supporting their health, independence, and quality of life. The Homemaker works under the supervision of the Home Care Nurse and follows individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- General cleaning of the client’s home, including laundry
- Perform outdoor physical chores such as:
- Wood chopping
- Snow shoveling (as required by client or program directive)
- Prepare meals in the client's home, if required
- Maintain accurate charting and reporting.
- Assist with Elder recreational therapy.
- Run errands and/or assist with shopping as directed.
- Provide social interaction and share important information with clients.
- Purchase household or care supplies as needed.
- Participate in the organization's accreditation process.
- Adhere to all Nak’azdli Whut’en policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as requested by a supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Minimum Grade 10 Equivalency
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (preferred)
- Physically capable and willing to perform both indoor and outdoor physical work.
- Preferred certifications: Food Safe, OFA1, CPR/AED.
- Strong sense of confidentiality.
- Able to work with clients in a sensitive, tactful, diplomatic, and professional manner.
- Reliable work ethic with a positive team attitude.
- Basic computer literacy:
- MS Word
- Excel
- Email usage
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management and attention to detail.
- Able to work under pressure with tact and diplomacy.
Working Conditions:
- Attend meetings and potentially deliver presentations.
- Engage in phone calls, emails, and interpersonal interactions.
- Extended computer use and periods of sitting.
- Manual dexterity required for using desktop computers and peripherals.
Hours of Work
Your regular hours or work will be from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm for 7 hours per day from Monday to Friday and it is expected that all work will be completed within your regular working hours. However, you may be required from time to time to work outside your normal hours of work or on weekends.
There will be a 2-month seasonal discontinuation of work schedule to occur each year during the months of July and August (Summer Months), subject to Section 6.0 of this agreement.
Nak’azdli reserves the right to discontinue the seasonal discontinuation of work schedule and change this agreement to a year-round employment agreement without work stoppage during Summer Months by giving you 6-months’ notice prior to such change.
