About This Position
What you will do at Harris County Precinct 2
Under general supervision of Public Works Superintendent, performing lead level skilled crafts in asphalt road maintenance and construction duties, operates heavy motorized equipment and vehicles for various maintenance projects.
- Performs a variety of road & drainage maintenance including pothole patching, asphalt repairs, debris removal, and traffic signs
- Operates light to heavy construction equipment, including pick-up trucks, rollers, milling machine, paver, emulsion distributor, excavator, motor grader, front-end loader, crack sealer, patch truck, and power tools, as required.
- Performs routine daily maintenance including pre/post trip inspections, checking and filling fluids, report repairs, and cleaning work area, tools, and equipment
- Performs construction duties including setting up traffic control, assist paving crew with various duties such as; shovel and raking, safely directing backing/dumping trucks into paver.
- Assist crew leader in daily operations; may become crew leader as needed. Documents daily operations as required.
- Work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned.

Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license
- Must be proficient in multi-tasking to meet deadlines provided
- Ability to document activities both written and electronic, utilize work order management system
- Ability to work in a professional manner with all levels of management, staff, and public
- Knowledgeable of principles, methods, practices, materials, equipment and tools used in road maintenance operations

Experience:
- Five (5) years of experience in asphalt road maintenance (preferred)
- Class "B" CDL with tanker endorsement (preferred)
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-time | 40 hours per week

Reporting Relationships
- Reports To Position: Public Works Superintendent
- Supervises Positions: Asphalt Truck Operator & Asphalt Field Operator
- Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials. Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures. Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.).
- Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending. Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance; need the ability to occasionally kneel and crawl; need the ability to grasp manual controls and the ability to use foot controls and operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
