This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineer, Backend - Consumer Experience Platform based in United States.

The Senior Backend Engineer will play a key role in building the services that power innovative residential energy experiences and connected-device integrations. You will design scalable backend capabilities that enable customers to interact with energy products while supporting automation focused on efficiency, savings, and comfort. Working closely with product, analytics, and engineering partners, you will own critical customer-facing product flows from a technical perspective. The role offers broad exposure across modern backend technologies, cloud infrastructure, databases, APIs, and distributed systems. You will also help ensure services remain observable, reliable, and performant as the platform scales. This is an opportunity to contribute to technology that supports smarter energy consumption and a cleaner, more efficient energy future.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services supporting customer experiences and third-party device integrations.
  • Build scalable features and APIs that enable energy-saving automation and reliable interactions across connected residential devices.
  • Serve as the technical owner for critical product experience flows, taking responsibility for design, implementation, reliability, and ongoing improvement.
  • Partner closely with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams to translate customer and business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Work across a modern technology stack including Python, PostgreSQL, Celery, Redis, AWS/GCP, Git, and related cloud and development tools.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs with a strong focus on scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Implement API monitoring and observability capabilities and proactively identify and address service-performance issues.
  • Contribute to engineering practices including standups, team updates, one-on-ones, peer code reviews, and collaborative development.
  • Help evolve backend architecture and engineering practices as the platform and customer base grow.
  • Work effectively through ambiguity, identify technical challenges, and deliver thoughtful solutions with strong attention to detail.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of professional experience building and operating backend software services.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrated professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience designing scalable backend features, APIs, and REST-based services with a focus on performance and reliability.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Redshift, or MongoDB.
  • Advanced software engineering experience with at least one backend programming language, particularly Python, Java, PHP, or Ruby.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms and modern infrastructure, particularly AWS and/or GCP.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging abilities, combined with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, product, and analytics teams and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, taking ownership, and making sound technical decisions independently.
  • Experience with scalable distributed data processing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AWS Lambda or cloud functions, pub/sub architectures, and workflow orchestration tools such as Prefect is beneficial.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and cloud automation tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK is a plus.
  • Experience working with external technology partners or within the electric power industry is advantageous.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship.
Benefits
  • Competitive base salary of $160,000–$200,000, depending on experience, skills, background, and U.S. work location.
  • Target annual bonus of 10% of base salary.
  • Eligibility to participate in long-term incentive programs tied to organizational growth and performance.
  • Fully remote work environment with a home-office setup allowance.
  • Flexible paid time off with a culture that encourages employees to take meaningful vacation time.
  • Parental leave benefits and a strong emphasis on sustainable work practices and family wellbeing.
  • Competitive health and wellness benefits package.
  • 401(k) plan with employer contributions.
  • Opportunity to work with a mission-driven, collaborative team in a fully remote environment.
  • Professional growth and continuous learning opportunities.
