Job Description
Perform duties to tend the melt furnaces on the Die Cast Machines. Preventative maintenance on all melt furnaces and equipment. Perform housekeeping duties.
Requirements:include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Engage in safe operations of die cast melt practices and uphold housekeeping standards
- Utilization and care of proper PPE as required by the job function performed per instructions and training documents. Immediately report any safety hazards to the lead or shift Supervisor. Active engagement in Continuous Improvement of safety and housekeeping standard to minimize the hazards of the operation and to maintain a clean work environment.
Perform maintenance and repairs of metal equipment as required
- Clean melt and holding furnaces as required using flux. Properly perform preventative and predictive maintenance on furnaces as well as troubleshooting when necessary. Other duties include but are not limited to scraping the furnace, skim the bath, clean the launder, clean the thermocouple/sensor hole, scrape the walls of the bath and stack and add chemistry additions.
Maintain Metal Cleanliness and Chemistry
- Must maintain metal cleanliness and chemistry by using test equipment, K-Mold, and RPT to ensure metal is clean and free of gas porosity. Being able to respond by using the reaction plan if standard conditions deteriorate. Other duties include adding chemistry additions to the furnace when Quality department notifies chemistries are beginning to trend out of tolerance.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance
- Check Gas/Air Combustion Ratio
- Manufacture all thermocouples, as needed
- Make all stack burner biscuits
- Responsible for cold cleaning furnaces
- Avoid machine downtime due to breakdowns of equipment related to furnaces
- Change Metal filters and degassing lance
- Change air filters
- Jack Hammer Oxides
Academic Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency preferred
Required Skills & Experience
- Understanding of Statistical Process Control.
- Knowledge and support of safety programs.
- Ability to restart furnace from off position.
- Ability to properly clean all furnaces.
- Employee will be required to attend to the maintenance and function of the machinery throughout the plant.
- Ability to run/control a jack hammer.
- Must be able to pass forklift driving test and obtain Linamar LMP issued Forklift license.
- Knowledge of TS-16949 quality systems
