Job Description

Position Summary:

The Community Counseling Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of quality services and staff of the Community Counseling Program. This position is responsible the day-to-day performance of the program.

In addition to the duties and requirements listed below, YFA expects employees to be committed to incorporating principles of trauma-informed care in all areas of service delivery. Commitment to these principles is demonstrated through active participation in agency-required trainings, use of trauma-informed practices, and understanding that trauma-informed environments require cultural sensitivity and an emphasis on a safe and respectful environment for all.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides direct supervision of staff and oversees coordination, accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of workflow.
  • Supervises day-to-day operations of the Community Counseling Program in one or more DJJ Circuits.
  • Oversees and directs the client data collection and reporting process, ensuring data is entered accurately and timely.
  • Serves as mentor and coach to assist and train team members in the timely preparation and completion of work assignments.
  • Ensures services for youth and families are delivered as required under Florida Statutes 984, the Florida Network of Youth and Family Services, and YFA.
  • Ensures systems are in place to meet and/or exceed Quality Assurance and Accreditation standards. Regularly reviews and offers suggestions for improvement.
  • Ensures timely monitoring and delivery of services. Performs troubleshooting and/or provides direct services to children and families, to include a small caseload, as needed.
  • Monitors and ensures required benchmarks and outcome measures are met.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with community stakeholders particularly in truancy, law enforcement, the court system, and others involved and/or interested in the issues of truancy, ungovernable and runaway youth and their families.
  • Informs and engages chain-of-command as necessary and appropriate.
  • Participates in community groups, meetings, and training related to program issues.
  • Ensures program staff and self is responsive and flexible in meeting the demands of the program and the needs of youth and families.
  • Signs youth/family assessments and service plans, ensuring case files are well organized, with current and high quality documentation.
  • Attend and actively engage in outreach events across all counties served. Build and maintain relationships with community providers and partner, and deliver presentations on program services to increase awareness and generate referrals.
  • Assist in serving as a task and/or field supervisor for bachelor's and master's level interns, providing guidance, oversight, and support to ensure successful completion of their degree program requirements.
  • Follows and ensures program staff understand and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity, community, family, and child needs.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience: Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health, Psychology, or other Human Services Master's degree and 0-3 years' post Master's degree clinical/counseling experience. Must hold a current state license and be in good standing with the appropriate licensing board as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Preferred knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed principles and practices, including the importance of creating a safe environment, fostering trust, promoting collaboration, and empowering individuals. Ability to manage personal reactions to traumatic stories and situations and communicate a sense of trust and safety. Ability to understand and empathize with individuals, recognizing the impact of trauma on emotions, relationships, and overall well-being.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to document in a clear, concise manner and teach others to do the same
  • Must possess skills to assist, interpret, and deliver case and court related information
  • Ability to maintain a positive approach concerning all aspects of working in a challenging environment, including significant patience and respect for peers and team members, as well as the children and families receiving program services
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a group or team setting
  • Ability to take guidance and direction from supervisors
  • Ability to exhibit high level of initiative and the ability to function as a leader, as well as a team member
  • Ability to facilitate groups and address the varied group dynamics that may arise
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Skilled in actively listening to concerns, providing a safe space for individuals to express themselves without judgment or blame

Physical Requirements: Ability to travel regionally on a regular basis, and statewide as needed. Ability to bend, lift, and carry 30 pounds.
