Job Description

Gateway West | Homeless Shelter Supervisor

“YOU lead the team that helps create a safe place for people to take their next step.”

Gateway West is Albuquerque’s largest shelter, serving an average of 600 people per night. The shelter provides low-barrier, trauma-informed overnight services, meals, safe sleeping accommodations, transportation, and access to case management and supportive services.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?

You will oversee daily shelter operations while ensuring a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for residents. You will supervise staff, coordinate 24/7 staffing coverage, provide coaching and training, manage crisis situations, and ensure services and operations meet program standards.

You will also work with community partners and service providers to connect residents with resources that support their transition to safe, stable housing.

You are a compassionate and confident leader who can remain calm under pressure. You understand homelessness, trauma-informed care, and community resources, and you can effectively lead a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years in social services or shelter management, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role

Other Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of homelessness issues, social services, and local community resources
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and HMIS data base
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Commitment to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural competence
  • Capacity to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively
