About This Position
An Intervention Specialist assists children with specialized instruction and assists teams in designing optimal learning environments that are individualized to meet student needs. Intervention Specialists design, execute and assess individualized programs based on assessment, observation, data analysis and critical review of student needs and strengths. Operates in accordance with STEPS values.
Essential Accountabilities
- Communicate with team members and coordinates weekly meetings
- Collaborate with the team on development of student learning plans and design weekly lesson plans.
- Collaborate with classroom staff and support staff to develop and monitor progress of IEPs.
- Assure consistency among staff through observations and check-ins.
- Completes staffing schedules weekly to ensure proper breaks and planning times.
- Oversees classroom staff and brings any issues to the supervisor.
- Provides ongoing coaching and support to classroom staff.
- Communicates all necessary information to classroom staff such as, changes in students programs, changes in schedule, days/times of team meetings, etc.
- Supervise students in his/her care at all times.
- Meet with the classroom team and all support staff weekly to discuss students progress and skill acquisition.
- Meet the individual needs of students by individualizing instruction within the classroom environment.
- Assists in designing and implementing classroom intervention strategies, modifies curriculum as necessary, and ensures that all students are learning and growing.
- Create lesson plans according to Ohio Academic content standards and or extended Ohio academic content standards.
- Evaluate student progress through observations, direct testing, and data review.
- Prepare learning materials and implement daily lesson plans.
- Prepares visual support that students need for success.
- Communicate and work with parents regarding academic, behavioral, emotional and social concerns
- Complete daily communication log for students.
- Follow student behavior intervention plans and collect data accordingly.
- Show evidence of a dynamic learning environment through classroom support and strategies and implementing a variety of teaching methods/materials.
- Ensures that students are valued and that staff maintain high standards in creating a positive learning environment.
- Assist and encourage students in developing and reaching their full potential.
- Ensure the safety of students by accompanying them across learning settings during the school day or school activities as assigned.
- Carry out all policies and procedures in a professional manner as outlined in STEPS policies and procedures manual.
- Contribute to the cleanliness and maintenance of the assigned classroom including organizing materials and teaching stimuli, sterilizing toys and surface areas, placing trash in designated area to be collected, and other daily needs to ensure a clean learning environment.
- Attend professional in-services in areas related to job responsibilities.
- Willingly share information/expertise with colleagues.
- Read current information in professional publications to remain abreast of educational research.
- Ensure STEPS Educational Group confidentiality agreement for students is maintained.
- Teach and act in accordance with the objectives and policies of Steps Educational Group as directed by your supervisor.
- Meet all deadlines for turning in required paperwork (including but not limited to IEP data, behavior data, notebook checks, field trip paperwork, quarterly progress reports, service records, time sheets etc.).
- Complete paperwork in a neat and legible manner.
- Maintain integrity of STEPS Educational Group Model.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in special education.
- Ohio Department of Education Intervention Specialist License.
- Experience working with children with special needs.
- Ability to design effective programs for diverse children.
- Participate in professional growth activities through staff development, workshops, and independent research.
- Excellent observation and analytical skill.
- Available to work extended hours to have meetings with parent
- Must be able to be compliant with ODE and ODJFS.
- Maintain integrity of STEPS Educational Group Model.l
- Candidates must possess strong time management skills, communication and organizational skills.
- Candidates must have the ability to problem solve.
- May be required to drive or assist in transporting students in a STEPS company vehicle.
- Position can require or involve some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior.
- Must be able to use a variety of equipment for children with special needs. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment. Must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 50 pounds (and/or up to adult size body weight with two-to-three person lift).
