Job Summary:
Direct Support Professionals for respite services are responsible for assisting persons served in maintaining and increasing independence while participating in leisure activities. This individual is a role model to the persons served and others in providing quality support and enrichment. This person maintains a professionalism and positive attitude while providing guidance and boundaries for safe support. DSPs participate and support persons served in the creation and implementation of events and activities that take place in the community and The Club @AGI. DSPs should avoid situations in which their personal interests, conflict or might conflict with their job functions and should immediately disclose the possibility of a conflict of interest to their supervisor. Job Duties (not limited to):
- Support the Individual with engaging in leisure activities or events of interest.
- Supporting Individuals in the community.
- Ensuring safety and supervision while participating in events in the community and The Club @AGI.
- Facilitates opportunities for people to gain independence through planned activities.
- Complete written documentation as needed.
- Document and recommend actions to increase the independence of people who are supported, as needed.
- Maintain all applicable certifications including First Aid and CPR and MANDT.
- Responds to crises following policy and training.
- Transport clients when necessary, using Angel Guardians, Inc. Vehicles as well as personal vehicles.
- Makes decisions based on Agency Training and Mission.
- Other Duties as assigned.
- Flexible schedule- This service is typically provided later afternoon-evening hours/Weekdays and Weekends.
Skills and/or Qualifications (not limited to):
- The successful candidate is reliable, energetic, professional, flexible, and capable of meeting job duties as listed.
- Is a positive role model for people supported.
- Able to communicate effectively.
- Valid driver's license, and good driving record.
- Clearance of all applicable background checks.
- Professional writing skills, ability to be objective and fact-based.
Physical Requirements:
- Personal Assistance: Ability to assist individuals in activities of daily living as well as related job tasks.
- Lifting / Physical Demands: Able to lift 50 or more pounds frequently.
- Challenging Behaviors: Ability/ willingness to support individuals with challenging behavior.
- Ability to move throughout the facility and community.
- Communicate with people supported, staff, and community.
Education and/or Experience:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- The ability to maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
- The ability to maintain a MANDT certification.
- Experience with adults who have developmental disabilities, (or similar experience is strongly preferred).
