Description

The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining commercial trailers to ensure they meet DOT regulations and Kerry Brothers' quality standards. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with service advisors, parts personnel, and fellow technicians.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform DOT inspections and preventative maintenance servicesDiagnose and repair air brake systemsRepair suspension systems including Hendrickson, Meritor, and SAF suspensionsPerform wheel end repairs including bearings, seals, hubs, and brake componentsRepair electrical systems including ABS, lighting, wiring, and connectorsDiagnose and repair air systems, valves, chambers, and airlinesPerform welding and trailer structural repairsReplace flooring, roof panels, side panels, doors, and rear framesRepair liftgates and trailer accessoriesInstall replacement components and aftermarket equipmentComplete repair orders accurately and thoroughlyMaintain a clean and organized work areaFollow all safety policies and company proceduresCommunicate repair recommendations to service advisors when additional work is identifiedEnsure repairs meet manufacturer specifications and DOT regulations

Position Overview

Successful candidates will have experience working on commercial trailers and be comfortable performing everything from routine maintenance to major structural and suspension repairs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

2+ years of commercial trailer repair experience preferredKnowledge of DOT inspection requirementsExperience with air brake systemsAbility to diagnose mechanical and electrical issuesWelding and fabrication experience preferredAbility to lift up to 75 poundsValid driver's license with acceptable driving recordAbility to work independently and within a team environmentStrong communication and organizational skillsBasic computer skills for documenting repairs
