Position Summary
Under the Athletic Department the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes and workouts for groups of individuals Dolores Doré Eccles Health, Wellness and Athletic Center facility. The goal of this role is to motivate and guide individuals through a variety of exercise routines so they can reach their fitness goals, while also ensuring their safety. The Group Exercise Instructor reports to the Associate Athletic Director of Facilities and Recreation.
Minimum Requirements
- Possess a current group fitness certification (Yoga Alliance, ACE, AFAA, Zumba, High Fitness, Insanity etc.)
- Possess a current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification, or within 60 days from start day.
- Excellent Communication Skills both verbal and nonverbal
- Punctuality and reliability
- Provide great customer service
- Responsible in nature
Responsibilities:
- Plan safe and effective workouts with modifications for progression and regression based on participants needs
- Instruct participants on the workout program. The programs can be yoga, aerobics, stretching, dance, cycling, strength training, and other functional workouts
- Adapt exercises for individuals with limited mobility or different levels to suit their needs
- Demonstrate movements of exercises to guide participants to perform correctly
- Create playlists that will inspire and motivate participants in their workout experience
- Prepare appropriate equipment for each class, and keep management informed of any facility needs
- Inspire and motivate participants by offering encouragement, keeping high energy levels, and reinforcing positively
- Ensure safety by providing clear instructions and paying close attention to any sign of discomfort or injury
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
