Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Coatings Inspector to oversee and verify the quality of protective coating applications on our industrial projects. In this role, you will ensure that all surface preparation, environmental conditions, and coating applications comply with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of corrosion control, structural steel or concrete substrates, and excellent documentation skills.

Core Responsibilities

• Inspect surface preparation (abrasive blasting, chemical cleaning) and coating applications for compliance with project specifications.

• Monitor and record environmental data including ambient temperature, relative humidity, dew point, and substrate temperature.

• Perform non-destructive and destructive testing, including dry film thickness (DFT) checks, holiday detection, and adhesion testing.

• Identify, document, and report coating defects, non-conformances, or deviations from project specifications.

• Maintain detailed, daily inspection reports, logs, and photo documentation to support quality assurance.

• Collaborate closely with project managers, site engineers, and coating contractors to resolve technical issues safely and efficiently.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Certification: Active AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level 2 or Level 3 certification is strictly required.

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of industrial coatings inspection experience in sectors such as oil and gas, marine, bridges, or wastewater infrastructure.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency utilizing inspection tools such as psychrometers, surface profile gauges, DFT gauges, and holiday detectors.

• Standards Knowledge: Strong familiarity with industry standards including SSPC, NACE, ASTM, and ISO.

• Physical Demands: Ability to work in industrial field environments, climb scaffolding, work at heights, and lift up to 50 lbs.

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for generating technical compliance reports.

• Travel: Ability to travel to various project sites as required.
