Job Description
numo llc is a growing card-linked offer (CLO) company connecting merchants and cardholders through data-driven rewards and offers. As we scale, we're building out our finance function to match — and this role is central to that.
About the RoleWe're hiring a Controller to own the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of our financial statements — and, just as importantly, to help build the accounting function itself. This is a hands-on, build-from-the-ground-up role: you'll design our chart of accounts, close calendar, and accounting policies, and lead our first SOC 1 implementation from scratch. If you've been part of an established accounting department your whole career and haven't built one, this probably isn't the right fit — but if you've been looking for the chance to shape how a finance function works rather than just operate within one, this is that opportunity. You'll report to the Director of Finance.
Come build with us in an environment where you won't be boxed into a narrow lane — you'll have the opportunity to explore different areas of the finance function, shape processes that don't exist yet, and truly leave your mark on how this company runs.
What You'll Do
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process end-to-end in NetSuite, with a target close of 5–7 business days
- Design and maintain our revenue recognition policy for card-linked offers — redemption timing, breakage estimates, merchant funding structures, and revenue share with issuing banks, card networks, and publisher partners
- Build and own our transaction reconciliation process, matching offer redemption data against cash settlement and revenue booked in the GL
- Prepare technical accounting memos for key judgment areas, including ASC 606 revenue recognition as applied to CLO mechanics
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax preparers, owning the year-end audit process
- Lead our SOC 1 implementation from the ground up — defining control objectives, documenting the control environment, selecting and managing the audit firm, and progressing from a Type 1 to a Type 2 report
- Build out core accounting infrastructure where it doesn't yet exist: chart of accounts, close calendar, approval matrices, and documented policies
- Own NetSuite administration for the finance module, including custom workflows and reconciliation automation
- Manage cash, banking relationships, and merchant reserve/holdback accounting
- Review and approve journal entries
- Partner with FP&A on variance analysis, particularly around revenue share economics and merchant funding liability
- 2–4+ years in a Big 4 audit or technical accounting advisory practice, ideally with fintech, payments, loyalty/rewards, or ad-tech clients
- Hands-on NetSuite expertise — comfortable owning the GL, building saved searches, and working with the revenue recognition module
- CPA preferred, especially given the judgment involved in applying ASC 606
- 6–9 years of total accounting experience, including 2–3 years in an industry Controller or Assistant Controller role
- Experience leading a SOC 1 implementation from scratch — control design through Type 1, ideally into Type 2
- A track record of building an accounting function, policy set, or close process from scratch, not just operating within one already in place
- Experience managing external audits independently
- Card-linked offer, payments, or loyalty/rewards industry experience is a strong plus; adjacent experience (gift card breakage, loyalty points liability, marketplace take-rate accounting) is also welcome
- Strong Excel and data skills for reconciling large transaction files against the GL
- Experience with a data/reporting layer connecting a transaction platform to NetSuite (e.g., a data warehouse or ETL tool)
- Exposure to bank or network partner audits or compliance reviews
- Competitive salary + great benefits
- Passionate, driven team members
- Opportunity to own equity in this innovative product
- Dog-friendly workspace
- Subsidized lunches 4x/week
- Ability to work 4 days per week in our great Pittsburgh, PA office space in East Liberty and 1 day per week remotely
