Job Description

The Newport Beach Municipal Operations Department seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the team as a Senior Management Analyst (Trash & Recycle).


This position will oversee the development of the Trash & Recycle Division work plan and methods; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor the work of contractors performing refuse collection work for the City; and implement policies and procedures and develop new or modified systems, policies and procedures. The position will also develop and implement refuse collection routes and schedules; and inspect work sites and collection routes before, during and after completion to assure work is completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner.

Selection Components:
  • Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of Thursday, May 28, 2026 or until 150 applications are received- whichever occurs first.   • This position may work a 5/40 or 9/80 schedule
Retirement:
The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% (or half the normal cost, whichever is higher) of pay towards the retirement benefit.

ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office environment and may require occasional travel to off-site facilities, which could involve exposure to outdoor temperatures and inclement weather; equipment noise, equipment vibrations, vehicle and/or chemical fumes, chemicals such as cleaning solvents and grease, machinery and their moving parts, dust and water/moisture.

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible professional level administrative experience. Public sector experience is highly desirable.

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, public administration, economics, or a related field.

License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
