The Senior GEN Consultant will be responsible for leading end-to-end modernization and conversion programs involving legacy CA Gen environments. The role requires advanced technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to guide complex migration initiatives while ensuring quality, stability, and business continuity.
- Lead complete Gen conversion and regeneration programs, managing activities across the modernization lifecycle.
- Analyze and understand existing Gen models, including Action Diagrams, Procedures, Business Components, and Data Structures.
- Work with Mainframe Gen environments, including 3270 block-mode implementations, and support distributed Gen environments when required.
- Execute structured conversion processes using specialized migration tooling across discovery, preparation, extraction, conversion, and adaptation stages.
- Optimize and refactor models to improve conversion accuracy and target system quality.
- Transform Gen models into target technologies such as COBOL, Java, .NET, and TypeScript/Angular.
- Collaborate with client engineering teams to ensure smooth transitions and minimal disruption.
- Troubleshoot complex technical challenges within legacy environments.
- Provide technical leadership, best practices, and guidance throughout modernization projects.
- Support technical discussions, proposals, and solution design activities requiring deep Gen expertise.
The ideal candidate is a senior technology consultant with extensive experience in CA Gen modernization and legacy transformation projects. They should have strong technical depth, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in complex enterprise environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Extensive hands-on experience with CA Gen / Cool environments.
- Deep understanding of Gen Models, Action Diagrams, Business Components, Data Models, and 3270 block-mode implementations.
- Experience working with Mainframe environments.
- Proven experience in Gen migration, regeneration, or conversion initiatives.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in complex legacy system environments.
- Experience with one or more target technologies, including COBOL (especially mainframe or Micro Focus COBOL), Java, .NET, or TypeScript/Angular.
- Experience with XML transformations.
- Exposure to distributed Gen environments.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems toward cloud or hybrid architectures.
- Familiarity with structured migration tools such as MigrationWorks is a strong advantage.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with technical teams and provide consulting guidance.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working across multiple destination technologies and understanding source-to-target architectures.
- Knowledge of Micro Focus COBOL deployments in cloud environments.
- Experience with enterprise-scale legacy transformation programs.
- Experience mentoring junior consultants or client teams.
