Communications Support Specialist in Hanover, Maryland at IUPAT

SUMMARY The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) is seeking a collaborative and motivated Communications Support Specialist to join our communications team. This supporting role combines graphic design and video production to help create compelling content that educates, inspires, and organizes working people. The ideal candidate has a passion for the labor movement and social justice and is excited to use digital media to simplify complex ideas, supporting organizing campaigns, and drive narrative change. The successful applicant will possess expertise in video creation and visual design. Reporting to the Communications Director and receiving mentorship from the Deputy Director, this individual will work alongside the creative media and design team to fulfill the union’s strategic objectives This position requires occasional travel to support special events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Independently execute field shoots in coordination with our District Councils. This includes pre-production, production, and post production work. Work collaboratively within the Communications Department to create content with the greatest potential to go viral, tethered to the news/what’s trending, with the intention of furthering our union and our priorities. Meticulously manage and organize footage, assets and project files Stay up to date on current editing trends and techniques, including related to social video, to enhance storytelling and content performance Design and implement goals at the direction of the Communications Director, as aligned with the organization’s vision Develop new design concepts, visual identities, presentations, graphics, and layouts Design digital advertisements and marketing material Create digital collateral for social media, including static images, illustrations, and infographic Work at the direction of the Deputy Director of Communications to collaborate with teams and departments on social media content and strategy Prepare print-ready files with attention to production needs Manage video production on the road and conduct shoots independently Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Excellent organizational, project and time management skills Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude Highly self-motivated Ability to handle competing priorities and shifting deadlines Comfortable with team and independent work Strong attention to detail Excellent at multitasking Exceptional interpersonal skills Willingness and ability to travel as needed for special events and field production EXPERIENCE Experience in communications, graphic design and video Experience in standard design software, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro Experience managing social media campaigns across platforms such as X, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook for organizations or campaigns Experience with video editing WORK ENVIRONMENT Approximately 80% of the day is spent using the computer. Working environment will be a combination of office work and field work. The individual will also be expected to split time effectively between graphic design and video production work. Forty (40) hours constitutes the regular work week. The working hours will be eight (8) hours with a half-hour lunch break per day. Flex time window applicable (7:00 AM to 9:00 AM). However, flex window hours are subject to change to assigned start time(s) based on departmental needs.
