Job Description: Head Baseball Coach Identification Section Position Title: Head Baseball Coach Department: Athletics Reports To: Athletic Director FLSA Status: Exempt General Summary Leads all aspects of the varsity baseball program, including recruiting, player development, practice and game strategy, staff supervision, and budget management, to build a competitive program and develop student-athletes on and off the field. Essential Job Functions 1. Plans and directs all practices, game preparation, and in-game strategy for the varsity baseball program during the academic year. (30%) 2. Recruits, evaluates, and signs qualified student-athletes each year in compliance with association and conference rules. (25%) 3. Monitors academic progress and eligibility of all rostered players, meeting weekly with any student-athlete at academic risk. (15%) 4. Hires, trains, and supervises assistant coaches and student staff, conducting annual performance evaluations. (10%) 5. Manages the program's annual operating budget, including travel, equipment, and uniforms, within approved limits. (10%) 6. Represents the program at fundraising, alumni, and community events throughout the year. (5%) 7. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. (5%) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of baseball fundamentals, game strategy, and player development methods. • Knowledge of recruiting and eligibility rules governing college athletics. • Knowledge of budget planning and expense management practices. • Skill in designing and running structured practice plans. • Skill in evaluating talent and building an annual recruiting class. • Skill in oral and written communication with players, parents, staff, officials, and administrators. • Ability to lead and motivate a roster of 30 or more student-athletes. • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and extended travel during the season. • Ability to build relationships across campus, alumni, and the local community. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred. 3 to 5 years of coaching experience at the college or varsity high school level. College playing experience helpful. Physical Requirements Seeing: Must be able to see well enough to evaluate live play and read reports. (75-100%) Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate on the field and in meetings. (75-100%) Standing/Walking: Must be able to move about fields, facilities, and campus. (50-74%) Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to demonstrate drills and inspect field conditions. (25-49%) Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Frequently lifts equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. (25-49%) Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to type, keep score, and operate program technology. (25-49%) Working Conditions Outdoor athletic fields in variable weather; frequent evening, weekend, and overnight travel obligations during the competitive season.
