ABOUT THE ROLE
The Data Platform Engineer (DPE) will play a critical role in managing and advancing HPN’s data infrastructure and analytics ecosystem. This position sits at the intersection of database administration, data engineering, and business intelligence. You will be responsible for building and maintaining robust data pipelines (ETL/ELT), optimizing cloud-based data platforms, and enabling cross-functional teams with high-quality data and insightful reporting. This is not a traditional DBA role – it’s a hybrid position that combines cloud-native database management with hands-on data engineering and analytics support. You’ll directly partner with several teams to ensure data are accessible, reliable, and actionable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Engineering & Pipeline Management
- Build and maintain data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) pipelines across systems (e.g., Salesforce, Excel, SharePoint, Azure SQL).
- Support integration of source systems with tools like Databricks, Python, Fivetran, and Power Automate to streamline data workflows.
- Ensure high performance and reliability of datasets used for operational and strategic reporting.
Data Analytics and Visualization
- Support the development of dashboards and reports in Power BI.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver usable insights.
- Maintain data definitions and documentation to support data literacy across the organization.
Database Administration
- Administer, maintain, and optimize highly scalable and performance-oriented Azure SQL databases hosted on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
- Monitor, proactively address, and troubleshoot performance issues, query optimization, and capacity planning to ensure optimal database performance.
- Implement and manage database backup, recovery, patching, and security protocols aligned with best practices to safeguard data and ensure business continuity.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all database systems, configurations, procedures, and processes, including source control tools and protocols.
- Adapt software engineering practices to data engineering, including Azure DevOps source control tools for CI/CD pipelines and protocols.
- Stay up to date with emerging database technologies and industry best practices including, semantic data modeling.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in a hybrid data engineering / Data Administrator role or similar.
- Experience with data lakes, Azure Databricks, Fivetran and Power Automate.
- Deep SQL expertise and familiarity with relational database architecture (especially Azure SQL).
- 1+ year of experience with Azure SQL; Azure Database Administrator Associate certification preferred.
- 2+ years of experience with Microsoft PowerBI Premium / Fabric.
- Proficiency with Azure DevOps source/version control tool.
- Ability to write clean, reusable scripts in SQL and Python.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field preferred.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimum guidance while prioritizing workloads to meet goals.
- Collaborates well with others and works effectively in a team environment.
LOCATION
HPN is a fully remote organization. Employees may work from anywhere in the contiguous 48 states while staying fully engaged with their team and the broader company through virtual collaboration tools and regular online meetings. Occasional travel is required for in-person meetings, conferences, or team-building events to foster strong relationships and ensure alignment with key initiatives. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work from their home, have a dedicated office, and be comfortable balancing virtual communication with the ability to travel as needed for business purposes.
COMPENSATION
Starting salary range is $111,200 to $125,100, commensurate with education and experience.
