Job Description

Senior Accountant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Accountant based in the United States.

This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to manage day-to-day financial operations for a portfolio of nonprofit clients.
The role combines technical accounting, financial reporting, compliance, audit support, and client service in a fully remote environment.
You will oversee core accounting activities while ensuring accurate and timely month-end closes and financial statements.
The position also provides exposure to restricted funds, grants, audits, tax filings, and specialized financial reporting.
You will work closely with controllers and client stakeholders to support budgeting, cash flow analysis, and informed decision-making.
Success in this role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
It is well suited to someone who enjoys collaborative virtual teams and wants to apply their accounting expertise within the nonprofit sector.

Accountabilities
  • Manage comprehensive accounting activities for multiple nonprofit clients, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll processing, and general ledger management.
  • Prepare month-end close workbooks, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and support the timely preparation and issuance of monthly financial statements.
  • Track and report restricted funds and prepare net asset roll-forward information to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist with grant management, financial reporting, and compliance requirements associated with funded programs.
  • Coordinate audit activities, including preparation of schedules, support throughout audit engagements, and completion of final audit documentation, including single audits.
  • Support the preparation of Form 990 and other applicable local, state, and federal filings.
  • Develop specialized financial reports and analyses that help clients understand performance and make informed operational decisions.
  • Maintain well-organized client accounting records, including prior-year audit documentation, tax records, and supporting financial files.
  • Work under the direction of the Controller to assist with financial analysis, cash flow planning, budgeting, and other accounting initiatives.
  • Communicate proactively with clients and internal team members to resolve accounting questions, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards of service and accuracy.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of general accounting experience, with strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated experience with financial data management, recordkeeping, accounting documentation, and web-based applications.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience supporting audit preparation and coordinating financial documentation for audit engagements.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, project management, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative virtual team while also operating independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to become proficient with Sage Intacct and other third-party accounting and business applications.
  • Professional, reliable, and self-directed approach to working from a home office.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience is preferred.
  • Strong client-service orientation and the ability to communicate clearly and proactively with stakeholders.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Flexible work schedule within established core business hours.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching and full vesting after the first year.
  • 15 days of paid time off.
  • 10 paid holidays, including one flexible holiday.
  • Annual company-wide paid retreat.
  • Employee rewards and recognition program.
  • Supplemental health insurance options.
  • Legal plan.
  • Pet Assure program.
  • People-focused culture with an emphasis on work-life balance.
