Job Description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production, processing, and facility equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations. This role supports production uptime, food safety, and regulatory compliance in a fast‑paced food manufacturing environment.
Essential Functions
-Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production, processing, and packaging equipment. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and restore production quickly. Assist with equipment changeovers, adjustments, and setups as needed.
-Facilities & Utilities Support: Support maintenance of facility systems including refrigeration, compressors, conveyors, and dock equipment. Perform minor facility repairs (doors, floors, plumbing, lighting, guards, etc.). Support installation and commissioning of new or upgraded equipment.
-Food Safety & Compliance: Perform maintenance activities in a manner that protects product safety and quality. Follow GMP, food safety, and sanitation requirements at all times. Properly clean and sanitize work areas and equipment after maintenance activities. Coordinate with QA and Sanitation during repairs in production areas.
-Safety & Documentation: Follow all safety procedures including LOTO and PPE requirements. Accurately complete maintenance logs, work orders, and PM documentation. Identify potential equipment risks and recommend improvements. Participate in safety, food safety, and maintenance training programs.
-Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with Production, QA, Warehouse and Sanitation teams. Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and downtime updates clearly. Support off‑shift or emergency maintenance as required.
-Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience.
Skills:
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Basic electrical knowledge (motors, sensors, switches).
• Ability to read manuals, schematics, and work orders.
• Experience in food production, processing, or cold storage environments.
• Knowledge of FDA, USDA, and GMP requirements.
• Experience with refrigeration or conveyor systems.
• Welding or fabrication experience.
• PLC troubleshooting experience (basic level).
• Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, or on‑call shifts.
• Ability to work in cold, wet environment for extended periods.
• Strong observation and communication skills.
• Strong sense of urgency.
• Problem‑solving, proactive and analytical thinking.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Work Environment
-Work performed in production, warehouse, and utility areas, including cold and wet environments.
-Frequent exposure to water, cleaning chemicals, moving machinery, and production traffic.
-Required to follow all PPE guidelines when entering production or warehouse areas, which may include safety shoes, gloves, hairnets, hearing protection, eye protection, and protective clothing.
-Closed‑toe, slip‑resistant footwear is required at all times.
-Occasional work at heights, in confined spaces, or near energized equipment.
-Primarily in a food production facility, exposed to cold refrigerated environments (34Fº to 38Fº) for long periods of time.
-Strict adherence to GMPs, HACCP, PPE requirements (non-slip boots, gloves, hairnets, smock).
Physical Demands
-Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
-Frequent bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and climbing ladders or stairs.
-Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50–75 pounds with or without assistance.
-Manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
-Ability to work in cold, wet, and noisy environments.
-Visual and auditory ability to identify mechanical issues and safely perform repairs.
-Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
-Comfortable working in environments with moderate noise levels.
