Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician- MAP Specialist assists in labeling, preparing and filling of prescriptions up to the point of final check. The Pharmacy Technician – MAP Specialist maintains MAP and IPAP inventory, makes routine deliveries, interviews patients, enters information into the computer system, completes requisitions, packs medications and reviews prescriptions for completeness.

Essential Functions:

  • Receives and fills MAP Prescription requests.
  • Answers phones and provides customer service to all MAP Patients.
  • Refills MAP prescriptions.
  • Counts tablets and labels bottles for all MAP prescriptions.
  • Processes MAP prescription requests by phone.
  • Retrieves, counts and prepare MAP medication.
  • Selects container for MAP prescription.
  • Establishes and maintains MAP patient profiles.
  • Prepares MAP applications and follows up on approvals and renewals.
  • Submits Prior Authorizations and follows up on approval and renewals.
  • Submits Medicaid Prior Authorizations and follows up on approvals, renewals, and documents denials.
  • Should be able to process, track and bill specialty medication deliveries.
  • Assures specialty medication has been delivered on time and ready for patient pick-up.
  • Refers any questions regarding MAP prescriptions, MAP drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist.
  • Works with nurses, medical assistants and providers in obtaining necessary paperwork needed to deliver the MAP medication to the patient.
  • Answers other MAP patient inquiries.
  • Explains pricing to MAP patient.
  • Communicates and demonstrates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
  • Responsible for MAP Drug Inventory Management. This includes, but not limited to:

Correct MAP Drug “On Hand” levels in electronic database.

Maintaining “zero” cost on all MAP Inventory.

Correcting all negative counts on MAP Medications.

Receiving all MAP Mediations and maintaining proper storage requirements.

Record keeping of all pack slips and Invoices for all MAP Medications.

  • Responsible for preparing for all MAP Program Audits.
  • Responsible for all MAP Program Compliance.
  • Responsible for submitting PFIZER electronic vouchers for replenishment.
  • Responsible for running and submitting the Direct Relief Utilization Reports and checking for accuracy.
  • Responsible for keeping “up to date” Operational Procedures and keeping up with all changes with all manufactures.
  • Safeguarding and processing all MAP Vaccines.
  • Updating MAP and IPAP Formularies.
  • Communicating all MAP and IPAP requirements and changes to Providers and Clinical Staff.
  • Develop and maintain medication enrollment database for the Prep Programs.
  • Develop and operate a mail order system for the teleprep.
  • Complete the prior approvals for private insurance and Giled authorization for HCV program and Prep Program.
  • Distribute HCV medications at follow up laboratory to ensure adherence.
  • Distribute Buprenorphine to all MAT patients using protocol to be developed in collaboration with the MAT team.
  • Participates in committees and meetings as required by the Pharmacy Director.
  • Communicates and demonstrates the mission, vision and goals of the facility.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • User of Computerized Pharmaceutical Programs.
  • Use of word processing and spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel).
  • Use of Office Equipment (copy machine).
  • Basic knowledge of internet skills and PC use.
  • Ability to use basic arithmetic skills.
  • Ability to utilize basic written skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Covermymeds.com
  • Basic iAssist, Advancing Access and other electronic portals for pharmaceutical medication patient assistance programs.
  • Basic knowledge of the State of Texas Medicaid and Managed Care Organizations formularies

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Texas State Pharmacy Technician Registration.
  • Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred ability to speak and understand both English and Spanish.
