Job Description
Join our Labor and Delivery team as a Surgical Technologist and play an important role in supporting safe, high-quality care for mothers and newborns.
Reporting to the Director of Obstetrical Nursing, the Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist provides surgical, clinical, clerical, and unit support under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing personnel. This position works closely with nurses, physicians, and other members of the obstetrical care team to prepare for cesarean sections and other procedures performed within the Labor and Delivery unit.
The L&D Surgical Technologist practices within the established scope of practice and follows all hospital, Nursing Services, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities• Scrub for cesarean sections and other obstetrical surgical procedures
• Prepare, organize, and maintain sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment
• Set up operating and procedure rooms before scheduled and emergency cases
• Maintain proper sterile technique throughout surgical procedures
• Assist with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation between cases
• Support nurses, physicians, and other members of the Labor and Delivery team
• Assist with patient care activities under the supervision of licensed nursing staff
• Sterilize instruments and ensure supplies are properly stored and available
• Provide clerical and administrative support to the unit as needed
• Protect patient privacy and maintain confidential information
• Follow hospital policies, safety standards, and infection prevention procedures
Minimum Qualifications Education• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required
Experience• Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist is not required
• Two years of surgical technology experience is preferred
• Labor and Delivery, obstetrics, operating room, or cesarean section experience is a plus
Licensure and Certifications• Certificate of completion from an accredited Surgical Technology program required
• Current Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers required
Skills and Qualifications• Strong knowledge of sterile technique and infection prevention practices
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to remain calm and respond quickly in urgent or emergency situations
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Labor and Delivery environment
