Job Title: Foster Care Supervisor

Department: Foster Care

Status: Full-Time, exempt

Reports To: Associate Executive Director of Child Welfare

Compensation Starting Pay: $69,472 annually

PURPOSE: The Foster Care Supervisor provides supervision to the Foster Care Case Managers. This position assists Case Managers with problem solving and provides them with the supervisory support needed to succeed in their position. They will collaborate with DCFS to provide appropriate casework services to individuals and families in the Foster Care Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct supervision, training, support, review, and evaluation for foster care case managers and other assigned staff.
  • Directs those supervised in the assignment of cases and work schedules.
  • Ensures case documentation meets agency, DCFS, and COA requirements.
  • Reviews documentation and approves assessments and service plans completed by the Foster Care Case Manager.
  • Attends court hearings, case reviews, staffing, and meetings, as needed
  • Leads Foster Care Case Managers in moving cases towards permanency
  • Provides support to Foster Care Case Manager to help succeed in their position.
  • Collaborates and implements Child and Family Team Meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED:

Degree/Field Required: Master's degree in Human Service (Related fields will be considered.)

Experience Required: Minimum 2+years of relevant experience

Please Note: For positions that manage staff, the years specified need to be progressive years of management experience. For all positions, the years required can be interchanged with equivalent experience from an advanced degree related to this job and/or with other relevant experience verified by applicant/incumbent).

Licenses/Certifications Required: Child Welfare License

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Manager-Specific: Demonstrated leadership, supervision, coaching, and employee development skills. Ability to provide performance feedback, monitor productivity and compliance, delegate work assignments, facilitate staff development, and support case managers in achieving program outcomes and permanency goals.

Basic: Strong written and verbal communication skills, active listening, clinical documentation abilities, organization, critical thinking, and attention to detail. Ability to maintain accurate case records and comply with agency, DCFS, and court documentation requirements.

Social: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, families, foster parents, case managers, DCFS personnel, attorneys, service providers, community partners, and agency leadership. Demonstrates professionalism, collaboration, conflict resolution, and effective interpersonal communication skills.

Problem Solving/Decision-Making: Ability to assess complex family and placement situations, identify barriers to permanency, evaluate risk factors, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions that support child safety, well-being, and permanency. Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations and staff support needs.

Proficient Computer Skills In: Outlook, Word, database management software, electronic case management systems, and virtual communication platforms.

Expert Computer Skills In: N/A

Resource Management: Ability to manage staff workloads, case assignments, program resources, service coordination, and competing priorities while ensuring compliance with required timelines, performance standards, and contractual expectations.

Technical: Ability to review and approve assessments, service plans, court reports, case documentation, and permanency planning activities. Ability to monitor compliance with agency, DCFS, and accreditation requirements and support quality improvement efforts.

Trauma-Informed: Must display a willingness to adopt trauma-informed interventions, principles, and practices and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development in trauma-informed care. Recognizes the impact of trauma on children, families, caregivers, staff, and communities and incorporates trauma-informed principles into supervision, case management, family engagement, and permanency planning activities.
