About This Position
WDCHOC is a real estate developer and sponsor/guarantor of multiple affordable housing real estate partnerships and non-profit housing corporations.
The Senior Accountant primarily works with WDCHOC’s property management and real estate development portfolios and is responsible for direct and complicated transactions among WDCHOC and its multiple companies. The Senior Accountant will manage a portfolio of WDC owned and/or HOC managed properties and entities. The Senior Accountant is responsible for end-to-end processes of intercompany accounting such as reviewing and verifying intercompany charges, reviewing and resolving out of balance/intercompany items, and conducting intercompany account settlements. As a member of the accounting team, the Senior Accountant handles complex transactions and is available to mentor and train other departmental staff.
Essential Duties:
- Supports Property Management and Asset Management departments by providing accurate and timely information on the status of the properties and entities under their responsibility.
- Verifies and reviews details (both sending and receiving) of intercompany requests received.
- Determines appropriate intercompany accounting details (e.g. GL accounts, Cost Objects, Transaction Type, Tax Code, etc.), when required
- Posts Intercompany journal entries on both sides for cross-company enabled locations and to one location if not cross-company enabled.
- Works with appropriate accounting contact persons for intercompany transactions (e.g., loans, interest and dividend related transactions)
- Monitors pending Intercompany requests (either Sending or Receiving) and provides status updates to parties who will need to action such requests
- Prepares accruals for recurring transactions (e.g., acquisitions in process and cash in transit)
- Ensures timely expense recognition (on both sides) for year-end Intercompany related accruals
- Coordinates with department and Executive Director for any settlement requirements
- Prepares payments and collections relating to intercompany transactions.
- Maintains accurate, up to date reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
Other Duties:
- Reconciling sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
- Assembling and reviewing financial statements
- Assessing internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
- Performing monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget variance analysis
- Researching and recording variance notes
- Assisting in the design and preparation of budgets for review by management
- Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules
- Assisting with audit preparations
- Mentoring and assisting with the training and development of the accounting team.

- Act as a resource for property and facilities management staff on real estate accounting policies, procedures, and software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- 3-5 years of accounting experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- Experience in intercompany accounting or real estate accounting required.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Reconciliation
- Basic financial analysis
- Basic accounting principles
- Strong Excel skills
- Proficient in property management software, such as RealPage/Yardi
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Training/coaching skills
- Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team, communicate financial information clearly, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
