POSITION: Front of House Staff: Tickets, ALDs, Closed Captions, FOH Representative

REPORTS TO: Front of House Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, overhire, non-exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: Show dependent scheduling. Tuesday – Sunday, evenings and holidays required.

COMPENSATION: $23.50 hourly

Through its annual seven-play season, together with up to four special event presentations, Berkeley Rep invites audiences to enjoy an eclectic range of theatrical experiences featuring diverse artistic voices, themes, and perspectives.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a vital part of the Audience Services team, the Front of House staff creates a welcoming, safe, and memorable environment for theatre patrons. Providing elevated hospitality to patrons from diverse backgrounds, Berkeley Rep’s Front of House team is expected to promote a culture of Radical Welcome and inclusivity, while also maintaining accuracy and efficiency. All essential job duties must be conducted in person on Berkeley Rep's campuses.

We are looking for an emotionally intelligent, observant, and outgoing team member. The best candidate will be someone who takes initiative, enjoys new challenges, and loves interacting with new people.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver outstanding guest service through a culture of Radical Hospitality, making every patron feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
  • Maintain a visible and engaged presence in public spaces to assist patrons, address questions, and anticipate needs.
  • Greet guests, scan tickets, and provide directional assistance.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of venue seating charts, scanner operations, and accessibility accommodations.
  • Assist with seating, late seating procedures; guest holds in the lobby and re-seating as needed.
  • Monitor guest facing areas and help maintain a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable environment.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest needs, operational updates, and communications from supervisors and team members.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues across departments to support smooth event operations.
  • Follow established safety, emergency, and guest service procedures.
  • Be aware of and enforce patron code of conduct expectations.
  • Demonstrate patience when assisting patrons with accessibility services, including helping guests with assisted listening devices and other accommodation tools.
  • Collect and store lost & found items.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of coachability and ability to integrate feedback into daily workflows and processes.
  • Actively participate in workshops and training, including harassment prevention, bystander intervention, and antiracism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access initiatives.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to hospitality and guest service.
  • Ability to learn venue layouts and seating charts.
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsive to communication before, during, and after assigned shifts.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic event environment.
  • A strong interest in and commitment to antiracism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access (AEDIA) initiatives.
