Job Description
Clear Construction is seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead and develop our team of Superintendents while providing oversight across multiple active construction projects in the Santa Barbara and Pacific Palisades areas.
This role is responsible for establishing consistency in field operations through coaching, mentorship, quality assurance, safety leadership, and technical expertise. The General Superintendent partners closely with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, and the Director of Field Operations to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with standards.
This is not a project-specific Superintendent role. Rather, the General Superintendent serves as the senior field leader, supporting multiple projects simultaneously by managing our team of Superintendents, resolving complex field issues, promoting best practices, and ensuring exceptional execution across the organization.
Core Responsibilities
Superintendent Leadership & Development
- Lead, manage, coach, and support Construction Superintendents.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits to provide guidance, technical support, and leadership.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and development of field personnel.
- Conduct performance coaching and provide ongoing feedback to strengthen field leadership.
- Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and Clear's Core Values throughout the field organization.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex field issues and personnel challenges.
Field Operations & Technical Oversight
- Provide technical leadership across multiple concurrent construction projects.
- Ensure projects are built in accordance with contract documents, specifications, company standards, and applicable building codes.
- Review constructability concerns and assist project teams in developing practical field solutions.
- Partner with Project Managers to proactively identify and resolve field challenges before they impact project schedules.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and owners to facilitate efficient project execution.
- Support field teams in maintaining organized, professional, and productive jobsites.
Quality & Safety Leadership
- Champion a culture where safety and quality are foundational expectations.
- Conduct regular field observations and quality inspections across active jobsites.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor workmanship and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support investigations, corrective actions, and lessons learned following quality or safety concerns.
- Ensure Superintendents consistently maintain accurate documentation, inspections, and compliance records.
Construction Execution & Coordination
- Support Superintendents in planning project sequencing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Identify potential schedule risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
- Assist with coordination of subcontractors, vendors, inspections, and material deliveries.
- Promote collaboration between Superintendents and Project Managers throughout all phases of construction.
- Provide field leadership during critical project milestones, turnover activities, and project closeout.
Operational Excellence
- Develop and promote standardized field procedures and best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve field productivity, communication, and consistency.
- Review field documentation, daily reports, schedules, and project progress for completeness and accuracy.
- Recommend process improvements that strengthen project execution and field operations.
- Support implementation of company initiatives and operational improvements throughout the Construction department.
Required Experience & Capabilities
- Minimum 10 years of luxury residential construction experience with progressively increasing field leadership responsibilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing Construction Superintendents
- Extensive knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, quality control, and building systems.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, building codes, and construction safety practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities across several active projects.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Technical Experience
- Proficiency with Constructable, Procore or similar construction management software.
- Fluent in MS Outlook and adept at maintaining routine administrative communications
- Ability to review construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Experience coordinating inspections, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid California driver's license.
